Objectives

Participants will be able to:

odescribe and apply the practices of Quality Physical Education.

ounderstand the positive connection between exercise and academic achievement.

olearn a progression of moderate-to-vigorous physical activities that can immediately be used in their Physical Education classes.

oconsider ways to adapt these activities in a way that best works for them and their students.

BDNF

Brain-derived Neurotropic Factor

“A protein produced inside nerve cells when they are active. It serves as Miracle-Gro for the brain, fertilizing brain cells to keep them functioning and growing, as well as spurring the growth of new neurons.” ~John Ratey, “SPARK”

Move It, Move It!

warm-up minimal setup leadership opportunities

BDNF BDNF is produced through physical

activity

A lack of it is why we lose focus and get squirmy in our seats after awhile

It’s presence enhances the learning process

There is a theory that students with ADHD need to replenish their BDNF more often.

Quality Physical Education

Maximum participation – enough equipment so each student has his/her own

50% or more should be moderate-to-vigorous physical activity

Based on state-standards

Has an assessment piece

(Make connections to classroom learning)

Word Wall

Switcheroo
