Collaboration and Technology:Survey Results

Enabling Responsible Supply Chains

Enabling Responsible Supply Chains

Background

► Fair Factories Clearinghouse (FFC) received a grant from the Levi StraussFoundation to conduct research on collaboration and the role technology canplay in facilitating or furthering companies’ collaborative efforts on supplychain practices.

► FFC devised a survey inquiring about respondents’ perceptions on five keyareas:

§ Current Collaboration Practices

§ Collaboration and Role of Technology

§ Drivers & Obstacles to Collaboration

§ Future Aspirations for Collaboration

§ Facilitating Collaboration Through Technology: Options for Consideration

► 101 people from companies (sector with highest response), NGOs, academics, governments, and auditing firms provided input into the survey results

► The FFC then solicited additional company input through individual interviewsto clarify which tools will best aid companies in effective collaboration.

Ideas on Technology Tools

Enabling Responsible Supply Chains

Option 1: “Company Matchmaking”Using technology, companies will be “matched” with other brands doing audits orworking on remedial activity in the same facilities.

Option 2: “Matchmaking with Same External Auditor”Where the same external auditors are used, companies may be ‘matched’ withanother company with an upcoming audit, with the possibility of scheduling a jointaudit.

Option 3: “Shared Calendar”Companies can see on a calendar what kind of events are coming up for othercompanies of their choosing. This will enable them to consider joint audits, jointtrainings, joint meetings with suppliers for Root Cause Analysis, etc.

Option 4: “Audit Profiles”Companies would be able to see the following: • Profile of audit firm (how manyyears in business, clients, etc) • Profile/CV of auditor • Methodology used • Audittool used • Standard / code used

Option 5: “Company Profiles”Companies would be able to see the profile of another company they may want tocollaborate with.

Option 7: “Factory Profiles”Factory Profile: Companies would be able to see, across key performance indicators, how the factory has performed on an aggregate level across data collected fromvarious sources.

Option 6: “Company Benchmarking”Companies would be able to see how efforts of another company compares to theirown across key performance indicators
