Using the Codex with Warhammer 40,000revised rules
Since the publication of Codex: ImperialGuard, the Warhammer 40,000 rules havebeen updated. This document explainshow to use the Imperial Guard inconjunction with these changes.
IMPERIAL GUARD ARMOURY
The Force Weapon listed in the weaponssections follows the rules laid down in theWarhammer 40,000 rule book.
Imperial Guard combat Servitors doindeed have WS4 whilst Daemonhunterones have WS3. It looks like Servitorsaccompanying Enginseers have hadbetter programming to cope with battlefieldconditions. Honest.
When a model has the HonorificaImperialis, it adopts the new profileentirely, but saves, equipment, and specialrules are unaffected. A TechpriestEnginseer would still have his powerarmour for example. This fact does meanthere is no point in giving the Honorifica toa model with superior capabilities.

It is possible to take more than oneImproved Comms in the army. Howeveryou may never re-roll a D6 more thanonce. For example, you may use multipleImproved Comms to re-roll more than onefailed reserve roll, but it has no additionaleffect on Preliminary Bombardment.Improved Comms vehicles confer thisbenefit even if they are still in Reserve.
Inducted Imperial Guard in aDaemonhunters army select from theImperial Guard armoury with all the implicitrestrictions.
A Priest with a Holy Relic may only revealit provided he “does not move on the turnit is shown.” However, the Priest’sRighteous Fury rule says that he “alwayscount[s] as moving even if stationary.” Thebest solution is to say that for this purpose“move” covers actually moving the figurewith the Holy Relic or the unit it is withduring the Movement Phase.
SPECIAL CHARACTERS
Gaunt has a Trademark Item and isFearless, passing this ability on to hissquad. The Trademark Item’s only effect istherefore to make his squad take a Moralecheck when he dies.
Last Chancers sub-units can claim tablequarters and other objectives.
You do not have to use a CommandPlatoon if you field an all Last Chancerarmy with Col. Schaeffer as its HQ.
DOCTRINES
You are not required to spend a DoctrinePoint to be able to take Storm Troopersand then an additional doctrine point forGrenadiers. Storm Troopers are Imperialtroops assigned to a regiment in the field.Grenadiers are elite members of the sameregiment.
If you choose to play one of the listedregiments in the Codex, you get all thelisted doctrine abilities, even if there aremore than five. Some regiments of theImperial Guard have lengthy militarytraditions and have developed moredoctrines as a result.
If an Independent Commissar is attachedto a unit, he adds 1 to the commander’sLeadership and will execute him if amorale test is failed.
The Hardened Fighters doctrine must bepurchased for each squad, not for eachplatoon.
If a squad has the Warrior Weaponsspecial equipment doctrine, you upgradesome lasguns to special or heavyweapons, the remainder are upgraded toWarrior Weapons.
If you use regimental doctrines and don’t“buy back” Sanctioned Psykers, you canstill upgrade a penal legionnaire underSchaeffer to become a Psyker.
The rules for the doctrine Sharpshooterssays, “Any Guard Infantry model with a BSof 3 may make a single re-roll of ashooting to hit roll of 1.” The reference toa single re-roll means that a D6 cannot bere-rolled more than once. If you rapid fire,you may re-roll any 1’s.
If you buy Light Infantry for the twosquads in a Platoon but not for theCommand squad, the Platoon deploys itsdifferent elements separately.
When firing the Hellhound’s InfernoCannon, you must try to cover the mostenemy models subject to range and line-of-sight limitations. You do not place the
template out of range to cover moremodels.
Heavy weapon teams are supplied with alarge base to contain both crewmen andthe weapon. Treat them as two separatemodels that are based together forconvenience of movement.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Commissar’s Leadership bonusapplies to the Junior Officer’s, SeniorOfficer’s, or Heroic Senior Officer’sLeadership special rule if he is placed withthe Command HQ. He focuses theOfficer’s mind nicely.
If a Commisar is with a unit that does nothave an Officer or Sergeant leading it, theSummary Execution rule means the unitwill take one casualty before then passingits Morale test.
Horses steer themselves, so RoughRiders gain the normal +1 Attack bonusfrom additional close combat weapons.
Special rules such as Iron Discipline orWargear such as a Trademark Item arenot conveyed down a Vox link.
If the Rough Riders are charged, they mayuse the Hunting Lance. They will not getthe Strength or Initiative bonus but willcount as having power weapons.
