Warmest Regards, Orlando Robinson
Happy New Year!! I hope every-one had a restful winter break! I want to thank everyone that partici-
pated in our Reedy Creek Cares Initia-tive. Through your generosity we col-lected over 42 blankets for Crisis Min-
istry, we collected over 600 canned goods & perishables for Loaves and Fishes, we also collected 46 toys for
Toys for Tots and finally we collected some boxes of school supplies & toilet-ries for Queens Creek Elementary
School in eastern North Carolina. We should all be proud of the impact that our donations will make throughout
our community and beyond. Thank you for making Reedy Creek the school with the big heart. Way to go Rac-coons!!
We are now entering the second part of the school year and headed toward
our final stretch. It is extremely im-portant that you know how your child
is performing academically. Your child’s report card only gives you part of the whole picture. We believe in giving
scholars every opportunity to do their best work. This includes turning in late work, correction of wrong answers as
well as opportunities to retest and re-work assignments. Additionally, teach-ers provide a high level of differentiated instruction to accommodate
scholars’ varied learning levels. As the second quarter report cards
come out in the next month, I encour-age you to closely examine your child’s report card. If your child is performing
below grade level, contact your child’s teacher for a conference and/or sugges-tions on ways to reinforce learning at
home. Remember, success comes from a partnership between school and home. Your support and follow
through at home is vital to your child’s school success.

February 2019
Happy New Year! I hope that you are enjoying a great start
to 2019! We are excited about all the learning that will be going on during the
winter months in Kindergarten.
With the winter season, we will see an increase in absences due to illnesses.
Please make sure you stress the im-portance of good handwashing with your
child, and practice at home.
As the temperatures drop, please make sure that your child is dressed for cold
weather. We will go outside daily.
The second quarter is coming to an end. Currently, we are conducting our mid-
year assessments, so please make sure that your child arrives on time to school each
day. Continue to have your child read to you daily, and remember to write the title
of the book in the agenda. Thank you for your support!
Happy New Year and best wishes for
a wonderful 2019! We hope that you all had a wonderful
restful break and are ready to get back to work. We are excited to begin the second
part of the year. Our reading lessons have taught features
of nonfiction text that include pictures, captions, maps, diagrams, labels, etc., that
provide new learning opportunities. Throughout the unit, scholars have
learned how readers can use nonfiction text to learn about our world and how to effectively share what they have learned.
As your child reads nonfiction books, please be sure to ask them what they have
learned through reading this book as well as the nonfiction text features. We hope
you enjoy spending time reading together with some fascinating informational books!
Our writers will begin writing all-about books this month. These books focus on
one topic, for example a book all about snakes, and tell information through text,
diagrams, pictures and more! In mathematics, scholars are continuing
their work on addition and subtraction equations. They will be using the strategies
they have learned so far to find the un-knowns, justifying if an equation is true or
false, and adding with three addends.
We are preparing for mid-year assess-ments in both reading and math which will
begin in early January.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
In literacy we are finishing up our
biography unit and then moving
into our unit on International Stud-
ies. Our students will focus on
South America and Mexico. This
will prepare students for our up-
coming International Festival.
In math, we are continuing to work
on multiplication and division strat-
egies with a focus on multi-step
word problems.
Please continue to make sure that
your child is reading each night and
completing his or her reading log as
well as studying math facts.
Welcome back
second graders!
We hope you had a
fun and safe break.
We are kicking off
the new year by
testing each child
for their new
reading level.
Students will be
tested on fluency,
comprehension,
and written re-
sponse. Your
child’s teacher will
send you more information upon test com-
pletion.
Scholars will also participate in MAPs testing
for literacy and math.
In reading we are getting to know characters
and their stories. We are learning how to
write opinion pieces during writing. In math
we are continuing to practice various strate-
gies to solve different types of equations and
word problems. In science, we are learning
all about weather and severe storms.
You can help your child continue to make
growth in the new year a few different ways.
Please continue reading with your child for
20-30 minutes each night. It is important
that he/she reads both fiction and nonfiction
books. Please monitor that your child accu-
rately answers comprehension questions as
well as writing response questions. Be sure
to review work sent home in your child’s
Friday Folder and practice the concepts your
child is struggling with.
As always, thank you for your support!
Attendance Counts! The attendance rate is important
because students are more likely
to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently.
It’s difficult for the teacher and the
class to build their skills and pro-
gress if students are frequently
absent. Please partner with us to
increase school attendance.
If your child will be absent from
school, please send an e-mail to
attend-
ance.reedycreek@cms.k12.nc.us.
Please be sure to include the fol-
lowing information:
Your child's name and grade/
teacher
Parent name
The reason for absence
A callback phone number
You can also call the school at 980
-343-6480.
This will help us tremendously.
Thanks for your support!
Second Grade (2028)
The Technology Services team has worked diligently to streamline student access to digital tools.
Student logins have been updated to a more consistent format using the student’s state ID and unique
password. Students will be able to access more of the digital tools available in the NCEdCloud portal. This change is a big step in making digital learning and access to digital tools, easier for students from
any computer with Internet. Please review the table below for updated login information.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
In reading, we will wrap up our
nonfiction unit. In the nonfiction
unit the scholars practiced finding
main idea, identifying text struc-
ture, using context clues to figure
out word meaning, and using text
features, such as photographs, cap-tions, subtitles, graphs and maps to
support their reading and under-
standing of nonfiction material.
In writing, we will be wrapping
up the informational writing
unit, by having a writing cele-
bration, where the scholars will
share their writing with their
peers.
In math, we will be starting our
division unit. We will be using a
strategy called the big 7. It is
important for you to continue
working on facts in all four op-
erations for your child to be
successful during this unit.
Fourth Grade (2026)

The Encore Team Presents...
WELCOME BACK SCHOLARS!!
Reading: We will be reviewing
standards RI 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 to
prepare for the NC Check-In
which will be the second week of
January. After the NC Check-In,
we will use that data to guide our
instruction for 3rd quarter.
Social Studies: In Social Studies
we will be focusing on various
topics. We will be using Social
Studies topics to address reading
standard RI 5.3.
Math: This month we will learn
how to divide fractions using mod-
els and equations, as well as re-
view all operations with frac-
tions. Once we wrap up fractions,
we will move on to Powers of 10
before learning how to multiply 3-
digit whole numbers by 2-digit
whole numbers.
Science: Weather and Earth Sys-
tems is the focus for sci-
ence. Students will learn weather
and wind patterns that affect the
United States and the globe.
Fifth Grade (2025)
Attendance is very important for academic success! As we go into the second half of the semester, please continue to ensure your
scholar is at school and ready to learn by 8:00 a.m. each day. We will continue to contact you if your scholar has 3, 6 or 10 absences. Please let us know how we can support you in being able to get your scholar to school each day and ready to learn
by 8:00 a.m.
The School Counselors will begin to offer small groups throughout the rest of the
year on a variety of topics to help scholars learn skills that will allow them to be more successful in school. Groups can help scholars with coping skills, finding positive ways to build self-esteem, learn conflict resolution strategies, develop
positive behavior patterns and learn decision-making skills. Scholars will learn to deal with personal issues and therefore, will continue to reach their academic potential. Groups could include Social or Coping Skills, Friendship, Family Changes,
Anger Management or Attendance. Groups are based on teacher, administrator, and/or parent/guardian referral. Parents must sign a permission form for scholars to participate in a group. If you would like to refer your scholar for a group, please contact the School Counselor.
Have a wonderful winter break and enjoy time with family and friends! Ms. Clinton: K-2 grade- shanice1.clinton@cms.k12.nc.us
