Heat waves and UHI modelling

• MUKLIMO_3 (Deutcher Wetterdienst, Sievers, 1995; Sievers, 2012)

• 3 days in summer of 2017• Spatial resolution: 100 m• Temporal resolution: hours

• Every hour find 30% (40%) of cells with the highest modelled temperature i.e. 70th (80th) percentile

• Add up the number of times a cell has been identified this way → hotspots

Next steps & conclusion• In progress:

• Shading of public transport stations, new water fountains, new

locations for parklets with greenery

• Quantifying the impact of green walls on the district’s microclimate

• Planned:

• Finalization of Adaptation Action Plan for Prague 6 district

• New Adaptation Plan of Prague (2020) – possibility of using similar

approach optimized based on what we learned at Prague 6

• Urban climate modelling and participatory mapping were welcomed

as complimentary approaches, giving the politicians and other

stakeholders new insight and sound information basis to support

climate change adaptation.
