CIO in Thailand

• In 1998, the thai cabinet approves a CIO position for every ministry, department and state enterprise

• Appointed CIO needs to attend a short course organized by NECTEC

Research by OCSC shows that

• Appointing a CIO is a right decision by the government

• However, Thai CIO’s career path is unclear. • CIO role is assigned as a add-on duty for the

deputy permanent secretary or deputy director general.

• A short course for CIO by NECTEC is only good for temporary solution. Long term solution on how to develop a CIO is needed.

Research by OCSC shows that (cont.)

• Long term solution should be a a cooperation between government and university with dedicated curriculum as was done in the US and Japan.

• Government in those countries works with Universities to train a new CIO and universities that involved are called CIO University.
