How to Use this Manual
This manual will take you through the basic steps you need to know in order to get the most out of the CIM website. If you have questions that are not addressed by this manual, please see the Frequently Asked Questions document. If this does not cover your questions, please contact the CIM support staff by emailing CIMME@maine.edu. You may notice a few small differences between your screen and the screen shots used in this guide, but the essential links, lay out, and functions are the same. Quick Start Guide
If you are familiar with the CIM site, but want a quick reference to get you started, follow the steps outlined here in the Quick Start Guide. Click on a step below to jump to that section of the manual. Remember, you can always visit the Help and Tutorials page to find answers to Frequently Asked Questions, or to watch video tutorials to walk you through these steps.

Site Overview
1. Home: The CIM home page provides a welcome to the CIM site
2. About: Provides a general overview of the CIM Pilot Project
3. Contact Us: Provides the contact information for CIM Support Staff
4. Help and Tutorials: Takes you to the CIM Support Page, where you can find this User’s Guide, Frequently Asked Questions, and video tutorials to help you navigate the website
5. Secure Site: Provides the log in page for the secure CIM site
6. Log Out: Click here to log out of the secure CIM site
7. Menu: Contains links to different parts of the CIM site Note: The menu on your screen may not always match the menu on the screen shots included in this manual.

Before You Start
Before adding a new student into the database, make sure you have the following information on-‐hand for the student:
- First Name - Last Name - Birthdate - Gender - School - Grade -‐ MEDMS ID: Assign your students a 9-‐digit identification number using the following method:
###### = Your assigned 6-‐digit MEDMS ID 001 = the first student you add to the CIM site ###### + 001 = ######001 = your first CIM student’s MEDMS ID.
Your second CIM student’s MEDMS ID would be XXXXXX002, and so on. - Date Enrolled: Date student was enrolled in your school for the current school year. For most
students, this will be the first day of school for the 2012-‐2013 school year. Exceptions would be for students who transferred to your school mid-‐year.
- Class/Group: Regular classroom teacher or other label that will be helpful for you
We strongly encourage you to enter the following demographic information for your student(s): -‐ Home Language -‐ Race -‐ Ethnicity -‐ FRL: Free/Reduced Lunch Status
Free/Reduced Lunch Date -‐ English
Proficiency: Assessment date English Proficiency Assessment
-‐ Disability: Effective date Comments
-‐ Special Education:

Note: You will be logged out of the website automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity.

Logging In to CIM for the First Time
1) Follow the link to the public CIM website, or copy and paste it into your browser: https://cim.umaine.edu/cim
Note: You may want to add the CIM website address to your browser “Favorites” or bookmark it to make it easy to return to in the future.
2) You will see five tabs directly under the title of the CIM webpage. Click on the Secure Site tab,
the farthest tab to the right.
3) Enter the Username and Password from your Welcome email, and click Log In.

4) Click on the My Profile link in the menu on the left side of the page.
5) At the bottom of the My Profile page, click Change Password.

6) Enter the password from your Welcome email as your “old” password, create and enter a new password, confirm your new password, and click Change Password.
7) Check the rest of your Profile information, especially your email address, role(s) in your school(s), and your assigned 6-‐digit MEDMS ID. If you are not assigned to the correct school(s), or are missing an intervention role, email your Teacher Leader and CIMME@maine.edu.
If any of your Directory or Demographic Information is incorrect, click Update Data to correct the information.

8) Enter the correct information and click Update Data.
Note: Dates must be entered in MM/DD/YYYY format; if you do not know the exact date, please provide an approximate date.

Logging In to the CIM Secure Site 1) Go to the CIM website: https://cim.umaine.edu/cim
2) Click on the Secure Site tab.
3) Enter your Username and Password and click Log In.
Note: If you enter the incorrect password five times in a row, your account will be locked for 10 minutes. During this time, you will not be able to log in, even if you enter the correct password.

Adding a New Student
1) Click on the Add/Transfer Student link in the menu on the left side of the page.
2) Enter the information for the blank fields. Click Check.
MEDMS ID: Assign your students a 9-‐digit identification number using the following method: ###### = Your assigned 6-‐digit MEDMS ID 001 = the first student you add to the CIM site ###### + 001 = ######001 = your first CIM student’s MEDMS ID.
Your second CIM student’s MEDMS ID would be XXXXXX002, and so on. Date Enrolled: Date student was enrolled in your school for the current school year. For most

Review each field to make sure the student’s information is correct. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE THIS LATER IF THERE IS AN ERROR. Click Confirm. Note: If you notice a student’s information is incorrect after it has been confirmed, contact CIMME@maine.edu .
3) You are strongly encouraged to enter Student Demographic Data. Click Save Data.

4) Click on the Enter Assessments link in the menu to verify your student was added to your school.
You can now begin an intervention or enter assessment data for this student.

Beginning an Intervention
1) Log in to the CIM Secure Site.
2) Click on the Begin Intervention link in the menu on the left side of the page.
3) Select the intervention you will be implementing. Click Next.
Note: If the intervention you need is not listed, or you are unsure which intervention to use, contact your Teacher Leader and email CIMME@maine.edu.

4) Select the student(s) that will be beginning this intervention by checking the box next to their name(s), and click Begin Intervention.
If you DO NOT see the student(s) you need for this intervention, go to the Where are my students? section of Frequently Asked Questions.
5) Enter the First Roaming and Data Begins On dates. Click Begin Intervention.
First Roaming: Date of first session with student during roaming period Data Begins On: Date of first instructional lesson after roaming is complete

6) The next page displays student(s) in this particular intervention.
Clicking on the My Students link in the menu shows all students for whom you have begun an intervention.

Adding Intervention Data
1) Click on the My Students link in the menu.
2) Find the name of the student you will be adding data for, and click Add Data.

3) Enter the intervention data. When finished entering data, click Submit. Use these comment boxes to enter your case study reflection. Note: Writing Vocabulary is cumulative; you must enter a value that is either greater than or equal to the value from the most recent previous entry.
TRL: Text Reading Level
RW: Total running words used to assess reading level
WV: Cumulative writing vocabulary

Editing Intervention Data
1) Click on the My Students link in the menu.
2) Find the name of the student, and click on the relevant intervention in the Intervention column.

3) Look for the Weekly Record Summaries at the bottom of the page. Click View/Edit next to the week you want to edit.
4) Review the Running Record, and then click Edit Record.

5) Update the data and click Save Edits.

Entering Assessment Data
1) Click the Enter Assessments link in the menu, under Student Tools.
2) Select the student(s) you will be entering assessment data for, and click Enter Assessment.

3) Select the assessment you will be entering data for, and click Next.
4) Enter the assessment data. If you selected multiple students, you can enter data for each of them on this page. When finished entering data, click Submit.

Viewing and Editing Student Assessment Data
1) Click on the Student Assessments link in the menu, under Student Tools.
2) Click on the student’s name in the Student Name column.

3) Click on the name of the assessment you would like to view/edit.
4) To edit the data, select the assessment record you would like to change, and click Edit Data.

5) Edit data and click Update Data.

Viewing Reports
1) Click on the My Students link in the menu.
2) Select the student(s), and click View Reports.

3) Select the measure you would like to see graphed. Click Next.
The chart will show the measure you selected (i.e. Text Reading Level) for the student(s) you selected by intervention week. Note: Right-‐click on the chart and “Save as” to save a printable copy of the chart.

Ending an Intervention
1) Click on the My Students link in the menu.
2) Find the name of the student and click on the relevant intervention in the Intervention column.

3) Click End Intervention.
4) Enter the End Date, End Status, and Action, and click End Intervention.
Note: Once you click this button, the student’s intervention will be ended. See the How do I review student data after ending an intervention? section of Frequently Asked Questions.
