from every corner of the globe

CIGRE’s 16 domains of work; each has

a dedicated Study Committee

reactors

A3 Transmission and

distribution equipment

Group B – Technologies:B1 Insulated cables

installations

and economics

and control

techniques

telecommunication

What level of RE penetration

should be safely allowed in the

power system??

2. WG C1.34

• WG C1.34 launched in Feb 2016

• 4 face-to-face meetings in

Toronto, Paris, Dublin

• More than 30 members from 25

countries, in all time zones

• 25 conference calls

• TB published December 2019

(204 pps)

3. ISO55001: An Overview

• Asset risk and opportunity

• Building blocks of Policy (AMP), Strategy (SAMP),

SMART Objectives (AMOs) and Plans (AMPs)

• TB 787 emphasises value, alignment,

leadership, assurance

• Your last R1000!

4. Mandatory “Shall” Statements

• The 71 mandatory shall statements in

ISO55001 are explained in detail in the

context of electric utilities - 65 pages

• Each is explained and mapped for

applicability against the artefacts of:

• AM Policy

• SAMP

• Stakeholder Analysis

• AMOs

• AMPs

6. Case Studies

• Focus on their view of Data, Processes, Tools & Systems

requirements in the context of AM

• Three utility case studies presented – Eskom, TenneT and

Manitoba Hydro (30 pages)

• Of these 3, only TenneT was certified to ISO55001 in 2018

• Observations made while avoiding mentioning names of

solution vendors in line with CIGRE policy

Observations

• All utilities have a mass of data

that is used to manage assets

• All utilities apply business process

mapping and information manage-

ment systems, which are either developed in-house or sourced

commercial off the shelf (COTS) with customisation

• The anchor business models are Asset Owner-Asset

Manager-Asset Service Provider at TenneT but Eskom and

Manitoba Hydro use the Asset Lifecycle Model

“Since every utility has its own starting point, culture,

regulatory constraints and strategic objectives, it is

virtually impossible to develop a “one-size-fits-all”

solution to deploying ISO55001”.
