筷子筷子 (kuàizi) (kuàizi) Chopsticks, a pair

of small tapered sticks, is the traditional eating utensil of China, Japan,Korea and Vietnam (the four “Chopstick countries”).

Hold the other (upper) chopstick between the tips of the index and middle fingers, steady its upper half against the base of the index finger.

Use the tips of the thumb to keep it in place.

Practice 3: Use the tips of the thumb, the index and middle finger to hold the other stick like an ink pen.

Make sure the tips of the two sticks line up.

With enough practice, the two sticks function like a pair of pincers.

Practice 4:

1. Never wave the chopsticks over food when having a meal because

it is considered as having poor manners.

2. Never spear or poke food with the tips of the chopsticks.

3. Equally forbidden is using chopsticks to pull or push a dish forward.

4. If you need to put down your chopsticks, leave them on the chopsticks rest or by

the right side of your bowl or plate.

5. Do not stick them into a bowl of rice because it resembles ancestral

offerings and is frowned upon.

6. Do not suck on the tip of the chopsticks.
