The Virgin Islands Commission on the Status of Women in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Federation of Business & Professional Women’s Organizations and Virgin Islands Perinatal Incorporated will host a six week mentoring program, “Women Helping Girls with Choices and Challenges for Guys. The program begins Saturday, February 24th and ends Saturday, March 31st, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Croix Educational Complex.

Topics such as using your personal power, understanding your power in the political process, friendships and cliques, economic empowerment, presenting a positive first impression, taking charge of your health, and life after high school will be discussed. A certificate will be given to each student who participates in this program.

The goals of choices and challenges are as follows: to encourage higher educational career aspirations in girls/guys; to discourage self-destructive behaviors, such as drug/alcohol abuse, violence, dropping out of school; encourage girls/guys to plan for economic self-sufficiency; to delay motherhood/fatherhood; and to prepare them for the many choices/challenges they will encounter as they grow into womanhood/manhood

Applications are available from any school guidance counselor. Students fifteen to eighteen years are welcome to participate. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is free.
