Install UL-listed smoke alarms on every oor and in living rooms,every bedroom, outside o sleeping areas and at the top andbottom o stairways.
Replace alarms in your home that are more than 10 years old. Iyou don’t know when your alarms were installed, replace them.
Create and practice a fre escape plan that includes two exits
out o each room with details such as who will assist your baby/ child. Should a fre occur, go to your outdoor meeting placeimmediately and call the fre department rom there. Neverre-enter your house.
Put all lighters and matches out o your child’s reach and view
Turn the temperature on your home’s water heater down to120˚ F to prevent scalds. Test bath water beore bathing baby.It should be no more than 100˚ F. I it eels hot to you, it willburn your baby.
Install special tub spouts and shower heads that prevent
hot water burns. Cover unused electrical sockets with outlet plugs or guards.

Lay babies on their backs to sleep.
Do not put pillows, blankets, or toys in the cribwith your baby.

Always use the saety straps provided or your babyon car seats, strollers, high chairs, and swings.
Keep cribs and urniture away rom windows.
Install window guards or window stops on all upperwindows. Familiarize yoursel with how to open thesewindows in the event o a fre.
Make sure there is a 9-12 inch protective layer omaterial (like mulch or wood chips) on the groundbeneath playground equipment.
