Between four days at the end of May and beginning of June 2013, Chester Nomads AFC assembled a squad to travel to Germany and the small town of Buxtehude just outside of Hamburg where they would play two matches against the local semi-professional club Buxtehude SV. Nomads travelled from Liverpool John Lennon Airport direct to Hamburg Airport and were taken to their base at Buxtehude SV football club. The first game would end in defeat, going down 4-2 to Buxtehude’s reserve team on an artificial pitch. Second half goals from Louis Moss and Benito Apollonio were not enough to get the team off to a winning start.

Chester Nomads AFC VS Buxtehude SV

Two days later the squad licked their wounds and played the first team who play in the sixth tier of German football at Buxtehude Stadion. On this occasion it was to be a victorious day for Nomads. Goals from Kieran Smith, Ed Moss, Louis Moss and Alan Bond ensured a 4-2 victory against the odds. Throughout the trip the squad also enjoyed the nightlife of the local town as well as visiting the City of Hamburg on what can only be described as a very memorable trip. James Starkey travelled with the team for the tour and this book is a collection of his photographs.
