*NED KELLY

Edward (Ned) Kelly was born in June 1854 at Beveridge, Victoria.

When he was 15 he was bought to police on a charge of assault and aiding a bush ranger with some robberies, but he was found not guilty..

A year later he was arrested and held in custody for seven weeks as he was helping the bush ranger Harry Power but again the charge was dismissed.

In 1870 he was arrested for lots of offences and spent 6 months in goal, he was released but again imprisoned for 3 years for receiving a horse he knew was stolen.

Kelly worked for two years “timber getting” but in 1876 joined his step father stealing horses..

The Kelly family always thought the police were watching them, but for good reasons as they were well known in the district for stealing cattle and horses.

Kelly was famous for when he held an entire town hostage at Glenrowan.

After the murder of a police informer Ned kellys gang tried to get the towns folk to cause a derailment of a train in the hope to kill a large number of police officers they were expecting to turn up.

Wearing the famous head gear the kelly brothers held a shootout with the police.

His brothers were killed and he was shot 28 times in his legs, were his armour didn`t protect him. He survived and went to trial were he was sentenced to be hung in November 1880.
