The first Americans arrived to the new continent by accident! They were most likely following a migrating herd of animals during a hunt.

Once there, they discovered animals to hunt, fertile soil, wild plants!

Moving Westward (pg 68)

Settlers cleared land for farms, raised sheep and cattle.

Producing crops and raising livestock became the nation’s main economic activity.

In 1848, a man found gold in a stream running through the land of his employer.

This discovery caused a “BOOM” along the West Coast. The population increased due to people wanting to “strike it rich”.
