Tekes funding 2014
Tekes funds research and development
projects helping companies to grow and
renew their business. Companies cover
part of their development project costs
themselves. More than half of the
funding is targeted towards Finnish
SME's seeking to grow into global
markets.
Tekes also funds high-quality scientific
research associated with a vision of
possible applications in business or
society. Tekes funding can be applied by
Finnish research organisations.
www.tekes.fi
Tekes is the most important publicly funded expert organisation for financing
research, development and innovation in Finland. We boost wide-ranging

VISION
5G Test Network Finland enables Finland to provide the best and most appealing 5G test network environment and ecosystem in the world for
research and business development.
MISSION
5G Test Network Finland coordinates the integration of 5thGear testbed projects and facilitates the cooperative creation of an open innovation
platform for 5G technology and service development.
In addition to the 5thGear testbeds, active cooperation with other parallel research and industry projects and test infrastructures is practiced.
13
OBJECTIVES
Facilitate national and international collaboration in 5G technology and
service trials
Ensure that the Finnish 5G test network environment complies with the evolving specifications of 5G PPP and 3GPP
Provide a unified dissemination channel for the results of the collaborative efforts
Act as a public contact interface for all Finnish 5G testbeds

5GTNF Overview
15
5GTN 5G Test Network is a scalable environment
enabling future business model piloting and service development in realistic real-life use
cases. It also provides an opportunity for testing and development of key technology components forming the future 5G systems.
CORE++ Cognitive Radio Trial Environment provides a unique live network environment for trialling of new spectrum sharing concepts for future
mobile broadband systems.
FUHF The Future of UHF Frequency Band studies
the changing media environment, long-term media consumption formats and their impact
on business models for different actors in mobile communications and broadcasting
ecosystems.
TAKE-5 The 5th Evolution Take of Wireless
Communication Networks creates a multidisciplinary and open research platform for investigation and experimental evaluation
of innovative ideas in networking, services and new business models for 5G.

Fortum and Nokia to host a hackathon together before Slush
Energy company Fortum and telecommunications giant Nokia will host a
hackathon event together on November 6–7th. The companies will invite 40
innovators from startups and tech companies to develop new concepts together
with their own staff.
The event will be part of Slush Hacks, a series of hackathons organised before
the startup and technology conference Slush. In all the events during Slush
Hacks, there will be nearly 1000 participants from all around the world. The
winner of each event will get to present their ideas on stage at Slush and get a
chance to win the main prize of 20.000 euros.
Also Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of Transport and
Communications, Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes), Finpro
and Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) support the event. Together
they want to enable rapid experimentation, new forms for innovation and
strengthen competitiveness of Finnish companies. The applications for the event
are open at www.industryhack.com until midnight on Friday, October 23rd.
