Re:Newing - Its Fun!By Rev. Dr. Jerry Black, Associate Minister
Wow! What
a grand and
awesome sum-
mer we are
having.It is so rich
that we are no
longer taking
notice of how hot it is outside, especially
those of us who just returned from Family
Camp in Colorado. Okaythats not true.
But this is. God has been doing a wonderful
thing in our re:New experience this summer;
this experience of being one, dynamic, con-
versing and worshipping community; this
experience of seeing things and doing things
differently. Instead of focusing on that which
is wrong and that which needs fixing, we are
learning to celebrate and build on that which
is right; that which is good and true. Andafter our June conversations, that list is not
insignificant.
I think it would be safe to say that those
of us on staff and those on the Sabbatical
Task Force could not have envisioned a
more powerful, life changing journey. On
Pentecost Sunday, Greg preached about
fanning the flames, and we are! And
therein is the keyyou, me, and the Holy
Spirit.
Look Whats Sprouting!By Anna Lisa Stanley, Director of Childrens Ministry
Have you noticed the new garden out back? Childrens Ministry would like to
recognize and offer a special thanks to Joseph Turner, a member of FCC Edmond
and a Life Scout with Troop 479 (which is chartered through FCC Edmond).
Joey is nearly finished with the merit badges required for earning the rank of
Eagle Scout. Planning and leading the building of the childrens garden was a
major requirement for his advancement. Only 5% of boys who enter Scouting
actually achieve the rank of Eagle. It is a long process that involves much learning,
growing, and hard work. We would also like to extend thanks to Duke Douthitt
of our Property ministry who connected all the dots for this project.During the week of Vacation Bible School, our current 5th graders (soon to be 6th graders) planted
herbs, vegetables, and flowers in the two raised beds as
part of their Week in Missions. The Childrens Garden
will not only be used as a learning tool, but also as a way
for children to serve others. As the garden grows and
produces, we hope to be able to distribute the harvest to
those who might need a few extras. If you are gifted with
a green thumb and would be interested in helping nurture
the Childrens Garden Ministry, please contact
me at astanley@fccedmond.org or 341-3544, ext. 14.
We will offer a blessing and dedication of this new garden
in the fall.

Freedom Fest 2011 Was Wonderful!
Thank You!By Darcy Biby for the Evangelism Ministry Team
Monday July 4th was a typical HOT, humid summer day except unlike most Mondays, the rotunda of First Christian Church was crowded with many people who have never
crossed the threshold to our church before. Many parade-goers just took a break from thheat including a couple of pregnant woman and several carrying infants, who were verygrateful for the A/C and a comfortable place to sit down. As we checked and restockedthe womens restroom, many, many women told us how appreciative they were that weopen the church for the community during the 4th of July Parade and made a point tosay so.
Outside in our parking lot you could really feel a sense of community we served
J 1100 hot dogs J 1000 pounds of ice
J 900 bags of chips J 800 balloons
J 480 pounds of watermelon J And received $209 donated for B.O.B!!
While the 4th of July is a great day to remember and be grateful for the freedoms weenjoy in the United States, it is also a great day to appreciate our church family and thesense ofcommunity, hospitality and giving we can share everyday of the year. Many thanks for all of the volunteers who came early, endured the heat and stayedlate to help FCC put our best foot forward and truly celebrate! A good time was had byall!! Thanks also for all the generous donations from the congregation, Bar-S and USFood Servicevery proud to be an American and a member of FCC Edmond, OK.
