What is an open book exam?

The idea is to make education more relevant by proper application of the concepts.

It will do away with rote learning.

CBSE proposes 20 % weightage to open book part of an examination paper.

All the questions will be from the given material.

This will test the knowledge of students to find relevant information, analyse it & apply it in an appropriate manner.

CBSE proposes that NO text books will be allowed to be taken inside the examination hall.

Students will be told 4 months in advance about the chapters and paragraphs from which analytical questions will be asked.

There will be a separate section of these questions in the question paper.

The questions will be based on case studies related to the subject & topic concerned.

This system will be started in all subjects for classes 9 – 11.

This will be only in Biology, Economics, Geography & a language in class 12.

The scheme has been finalized and case studies will be sent to the students in the month of November 2013.
