The Government of Catalonia promotes Catalan Language and Literature abroad and has a strong commitment with publishing Catalan companies supporting their presence/attendance at the most important European Book Fairs, such as Frankfurt, Paris, London, Bologna and Liber in Spain. Under the government’s umbrella stand, 9 Catalan Publishing compa-nies, 2 associations, 2 institutions and 41 illustrators will attend Bologna Book Fair this year.According to Spain’s internal book sales report, published by the Federa-tion of Publishers Associations in Spain, Catalan Publishing Companies are leading the Spanish market, accounting for a 48,3% of total sales.

DESCRIPTIONThe Catalan Publishers Association is a professional association of companies publishing works in Catalan.The goals of the Association, which under no circumstances are profits-making or speculative, are to protect, promote and publicise literary works in Catalan and to represent, manage and protect the common interests of its members in order to achieve the aforementioned goals.It was founded in 1978 by a group of Catalan publishers who right from the beginning received the support of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia. As democracy had recently been achieved in Spain and after the Constitution and Autonomous Statute came into force, very special attention was required for publishing in Catalan, which had directly undergone very negative effects during the dictatorship.In fact, recovering and standardising the language has become one of the main aims of the Autonomous Government and this recovery and standardization of the written language directly depends on the attention

DESCRIPTIONThe Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) is a public consortium established in 2002 with the aim of promoting the Catalan language and culture abroad. This mission is accomplished by providing broad international exposure to writers and artists, encouraging artistic and cultural exchanges, and supporting Catalan language and literature studies in universities. The consortium is formed by the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council.The IRL supports authors, translators, publishers, festivals and literary agents with the aim of ensuring that Catalan literature is translated, published and read abroad.
