Caritas helping in Cambodia

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand

We work alongside local organisations in other countries to help people who are experiencing

poverty or injustice.

DPA Cambodia

Development and Partnership in Action (DPA) is the local organisation we support in

Cambodia.

Where in Cambodia

We are helping 26 villages in the provinces of Mondulkiri and

Ratanakiri.

Challenges in the village Cambodians living in these

villages work hard and face many challenges:

Adapting the way they grow crops due to the changing

climate;

Producing enough food to eat and sell;

Protecting their land because others come and cut down their

trees;Gaining formal legal ownership of their land – their

valuable home.

Working together

Caritas and DPA help Cambodians work together (in co-operatives) to make enough food for each other

and to sell at the market.

Producing food

Caritas donated this rice milling machine to help the villagers save money. Now they don’t need to pay

someone else to do it.

Adapting to climate change

DPA advises farmers to use seeds that grow when there is not enough

or too much rain.

Adapting to climate change

DPA shows farmers how to look after their vegetables to make sure they

grow well.

Model farming

DPA trains model farmers to then teach others how to farm effectively.

Forest patrols

Caritas and DPA support teams in the village to set up forest patrols to protect their land from others who

cut down their trees.

Owning land

Caritas and DPA help villagers to mark out the boundaries of their land and apply for legal title for

formal ownership.

Great partnership

We are so thankful for the great people we have met in Cambodia. We are keen to continue helping

everyone we can.
