Camille Pissarro (10 July 1830 13 November
1903) was an Danish- French Impressionist andNeo-impressionist painter born on the Virginisland of St. Thomas.
Known as the "Father of Impressionismmovement"
Grew up speaking French, Spanish and English.
Pissarro is the only artist to have shown hiswork at all eight Paris Impressionist exhibitions,from 1874 to 1886.

Early Life
Young Pissarro showed an early talent fordrawing and begin to visit the collection of
the Louvre.
Attended the Academic Suisse, a freestudio where he met future ImpressionistsClaude Monet , Paul Cezanne and ArmandGuillaumin.
He was also taught informally by CamilleCorot, who urged him to paint for nature.

He painted rural and urban French life, particularly landscapes in and aroundPontoise, as well as scenes from Montmartre.
His mature work displays an Pissarro empathy for peasants and laborers, and som
evidences his radical political leanings.
He was a mentor to Paul Cezanne and Paul Gauguin and his example inspired manyounger artists, including Californian Impressionist Lucy Bacon.

In 1859 , while attending the free school, the Acadmie Suisse, hemet future Impressionists Claude Monet , Paul Cezanne and ArmandGuillaumin.
The group agreed about the importance of portraying individuals innatural settings instead of traditional art that the salon preferred.
So , group of artists, including Pissarro, created their own reviewand called it the Salon des Refusees, (which means the show ofthe refused ones) and displayed works that were refused by theSalon

established an art society named as societe Anonyme des Artistes
and opened their show at the same time as the Salon during the sprin1874. This group became known as The Impressionist
