Why I love eBooks and people who read them on eReaders

1. Files are inexpensive to produce2. Files are free to send by email

3. My ebook can be read worldwide

Island in the Clouds at the Arctic Circle!

And files can even be read by anyone with a computer!

Reasons why eBooks are the preferable format ...

For some readers

Why I chose to publish an eBook first and why I love my eBook Formatter,Human Powered Design

My eBook on my neighbour’s eReader

There are still those who prefer print books

But I have encountered problems with self-publishing an eBook ...

Island in the Clouds on Book Club Buddy

Next has been finding media that will review eBooks

eBook News and Reviews

The way some booksellers view eBooks

But the biggest problem is just Discoverability in general!!

My two biggest problems with publishing both eBooks and Print:

DiscoverabilityAnd

Distribution

For instance, it’s almost impossible to get my eBook into libraries ...

Ebooks – seemingly the great success story for libraries...

Here are the statistics:

Marigold Library System

Since 2010,

432.8%Increase in Checkouts

Chinook Arch Library System

Since Dec. 31, 2010,

720.5%Increase in Checkouts

Peace Library System

Since Jan. 1, 2010,

407.4%Increase in Checkouts

But then ... The libraries and bookstores aren’t stocking my print book in great quantities

Or offering to help me promote either the eBook or print edition

This is one drawback both eBooks and Print editions share

The unique costs for each are, for eBooks:

1. Formatting2. Aggregation (listing eBook

on all online sales sites)3. Administrative costs

The unique expenses for print are:

Design and print-ready proofsPrintingShipping and storing stockSales and marketingDistributionMailing copiesComp and promotional copiesReturnsAdministration
