TownsThe Romans built Britain’s first towns.
Throughout their empire ,the Romans built their towns in exactly
the same style. Streets were laid out neatly in a grid pattern.
The three largest towns that the Romans built were: London,
Colchester and St. Albans.

A lot of building material has survived from the Roman period. Builders
used bricks, stones and tiles.
This is a diagram of a Roman house.
Did you know? Only 1% of Romans lived in villas.

Entertainment
Gladiator fights were used as entertainment
.
In small towns the fights were until one
man or woman was hurt. In cities the fights
were to the death.

NEPTUNE IS THE GOD OF THE SEA. HE
CARRIES A TRIDENT.

Our school trip
On the 10th of March, key stage two went on a
school trip to the Corinium museum. These are
some pictures of our visit.

Mosaics
Mosaic floors were a statement of wealth and
importance.
Each mosaic used over one hundred tiles.

ArtistsWe learnt about some artists, two worked in Rome.
Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452.
Michelangelo painted the high ceiling of the Sistine chapel (see
photo). We had a go at painting upside down. It was really hard
work and messy!

Neptune
Neptune was god of the sea. He carried a trident.
Neptune was also named the earth shaker because
he made massive earthquakes.

Soldiers
Only men could be in the Roman Army. No women.
Men had to be at least 20 years old. This is a picture
of a Tortoise manoeuvre.
AND FINALLY
This is a picture of Hadrian’s Wall which I visited in
2013.
It is about 73 miles long and was built by the
Romans.
This is my mosaic tile that I made at Chedworth
Roman Villa in February.
I visited the Roman amphitheatre in Cirencester –
it seated 8000 spectators.
