By: Katrina Heiser, Jesselyn Fernandez, Elizabeth Torres, Joanny Jimenez

What’s Tissue?•Tissue is a collection of specialized cells and cell products that perform a specific function. •There are four main types of tissue.

Can anyone name all four?

•Great! Nervous, muscular, connective, and epithelia are the four types. Now of the four, we will be focusing on muscular and nervous tissues.

•Muscle tissue divides into three main groups. Does anyone recall these names?

All about Muscle Tissue

-Makes up the body and muscles . It is voluntary.

•Skeletal

•Smooth

•Cardiac

-Widely distributed throughout the body, but mainly in the stomach. It is also involuntary. -Found in the heart and is involuntary.

Smooth muscle

Skeletal Muscle

Cardiac Muscle

•Located in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

All about the Nervous Tissue

• It has neuroglia that provide protection and support.

Why is neuroglia referred to as “nerve glue?”

Good! It’s because it holds the tissue together.

Nervous Tissue Continued…•Neurons are also important to the

nervous tissue, because they transmit signals.

•There are three types…. sensory, motor, and interneurons •Sensory- send signals from outside the body into the central nervous system• Motor- neurons transmit signals to activate muscles and glands•Interneurons- send information between sensory neurons and motor neurons.
