Antarctica is the fifth largest continent. Its land is covered by a huge ice cap without its ice cap, Antarctica would be the smallest continent.

• Antarctica is cold and dry. Temperatures rarely climb above 32 degrees. In winter it can plummet to -112 degrees.

• Antarctica has mountains, lowlands, and valleys beneath is snow and ice.
