FROM THE WEST
Greetings Brothers, Words of wisdom from another Brother: “In politics as in philosophy, my tenets are few and simple. The leading one of which, and indeed that which embraces most others, is to be honest and just ourselves and to exact it from others, meddling as little as possible in their affairs where our own are not in-volved. If this maxim was generally adopted, wars would cease and our swords would soon be converted into reap hooks and our harvests be more peaceful, abundant, and happy.” ― George Washington
Fraternally Yours,
Kenny Stichter

FROM the EAST
Greetings Brothers & Sisters,
This year has started off in warp-speed! The Lodge has a new look that complements the legacy’s left behind by many Past Masters and Brothers alike. The Flagpole has a new light attachment, the Chaplin, Deacons, and Stewards have newly constructed theater chairs. There are many old pictures added to the dining hall walls and the kitchen and restrooms had a field-day scrubbing! Many thanks to the brothers who had a hand in per-forming these duties. And there will be many more beautifications throughout the year. I’m proud to announce that Brother Jason Walters will be setting in the East when he confers the upcoming Fellowcraft Degree. Rehearsals will begin in February, on Wednesday evenings. Those Brothers who wish to participate, please contact Jason. It’s his degree and he has the honor of choosing his team. It’s also an oppor-tunity to sit in another chair. Remember, you don’t have to be sitting in a chair currently to be a part of the de-gree team. To our Brothers and Sisters with the St. Cloud Order of the Eastern Star No. 46. Your loyalty and support is beyond reproach. We look forward to assisting you in your upcoming Installation. Finally, I am organizing the Past Masters and Widows Dinner for a date in March. I will be reaching out to all the Past Masters to see what date works for ya’ll. Din-ner, Music and dancing will be on the agenda! Fraternally,
Gerald W. Newland, Jr. W:. M:.
Worshipful Master
FROM THE SECRETARY Greetings Brothers & Sisters, Happy New Year to all! As we begin this new year, it is my intention to con-tinue to make the Secretary's office more efficient and able to assist all members of the Lodge. As I transition in to the seat I will have a slow start but will be rolling faster soon. Bear with me. Please keep an eye on the Trestle Board, our Facebook page, and http://SaintCloudLodge221.org, for more up-dates. And wherever 2019 takes you, please keep the Lodge informed with your most recent address, email and phone number. (This information is kept locked tight by the Secretary and only used to contact you for legitimate lodge business. No exceptions.) As always, 2nd and 4th Thursdays, dinner at 6:30. Fraternally Yours,
Jon Brumer Lodge 221 Secretary
FROM THE SOUTH Greetings Brothers & Sisters, Hello again from the south. I gotta say this year has started off better than ever. I would first like to thank the Eastern Star and our Jun-ior Deacon Jason Macarthur for the help in the kitch-en. They sure are a big help. I would also like to let the brethren know that if they are interested in any Masonic Education or Masonic Leadership Training classes let me know. As I will be going and you can ride with me or we can car pool. I would like to en-courage all the brothers to attend the meetings. If any brother needs a ride to the meeting please don't hesi-tate to ask. So we can arrange to get you to the lodge. Fraternally Yours,
Jason Walters
Junior Warden

Past Masters Masonic Stories
FREEMASONRY IN THE WHITE HOUSE
A brief history of the gavel
At 10:00a.m. on September 18, 1793 the President of the Unit-ed States, George Washington, and his entourage crossed the Potomac River to arrive in the city of Washington. They were joined by the Alexandra Artillery and members of Masonic Lodges from Virginia and Maryland, and proceeded to the con-struction grounds. At the site of the Capitol, Washington was received by the Grand Master of Masons of Maryland, Joseph Clark. A silver plaque fashioned by Georgetown silversmith Caleb Bentley was handed to Washington who stepped into the foundation trench and placed the plaque, whereupon the corner-stone was lowered. The plaque was inscribed with a brief trib-ute to the “military valor and prudence” of Washington, and dedicated the building in the “first year, of the second term, of the presidency of George Washington… and in the year of Masonry 5793. Washington, accompanied by three Worshipful Masters carrying Corn, Wine and Oil, then struck the stone three times with the gavel , as prescribed by Masonic custom. Washington exited the trench to cheers by the assembled Ma-sons and a 15-gun salute (one for each U.S. State) from the Alexandra Volunteer Artillery.
