WE WANT TO DEDICATE THIS PAGE TO THOSE WHO ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
IN OUR COMMUNITY
Bill Barnet & Rick Meyer, Editors
On April 6, 2016, the home rented to Jahn Ter-ralimina and Misty Guthrie and children caught fire and burned to the ground.
Following the terrible fire the Brinnon Commu-nity united under the leadership of the Brinnon Church. Donna Steinbrugge, who arranged spe-cial church collections, also gathered individu-al donations. She also contacted the Brinnon/Quilcene Bluebills. The Bluebills called World Vision. On April 22, 2016, the team of Bluebills pictured below drove to Fife and filled a large trailer and pickup with a variety of items, most-ly from COSTCO, which were given to the fami-ly.
A Big Thank you to Antonio and Kevin of World Vision and especially COSTCO for their support. A special thanks to Myron Vogt and Laura Paul of the Pt. Ludlow Bluebills for the assistance and donations.
The family also wants to thank EVERYONE!

MY SCHOOL YEARS IN BRINNON
BY ALEX HANSON, 8th Grader
I moved to Brinnon in the summer of 06’and started school that following year. I remember that we kept com-ing to school on the wrong day and I was sad because all I wanted to do was go to preschool. I met Isaac when we were in Kindergarten. I on-ly met Joey at the beginning of last year, but I’m just as close to him as I am to others. Something that I re-member very clearly was when Isaac and I dressed up as fishes and we read, “One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish” to the school. I learned everything I know at this school, and most of my teachers have had a posi-tive impact on me. I’m really thank-ful and blessed to have been able to go to this school. I am going to miss it much and am dreading leaving. I’m glad I spent my years here and not anywhere else.

MY SCHOOL YEARS IN BRINNON
By Joey Toombs, 8th Grader
Even though I’ve only lived here for about two years I’ve had a few memo-rable times. Not only at school, but at home and away. I’ll still live here but I’m not going to school here. I’ll miss it, I’ll remember it as a place where I started to learn who I was and what I’m capable of. Mostly it was my friends I’ll remember the most. My friends and I have some ups and downs, but in the end we all worked it out. Which shows that they’re true. Ever since I got these friends they’ve really helped me to get over my past and move on. I thank everyone who helped me progress through these two years.

TIM MANLEY NEW FIRE CHIEF FOR BRINNON DEPARTMENT
Tim Manley comes to us with 19 years experience with the Port Ludlow Fire Department. He also has 33 years with EMS Experi-ence, 23 years fire experience and served in the Navy for 8 years.
Manley wants to get the know the community. He wants to also make an inventory of the district’s risk management plan, target any hazards in the community, and come up with strategic plans. For example, how can our community be organized if we have a major disaster, like an earthquake, huge flooding or a washout of a major road. He will be visiting Shrimpfest and various commu-nity organizations during the next few months.
The Department is always in needs of volunteers. Manly shared some volunteer suggestions, since not everyone wants to be a firefighter. Some ideas are: Drivers of vehicles, computer mainte-
nance, public information, and public education. He even mentioned that firefighters’ uni-forms may need mending. The chief wants anyone with any talent or experience to drop by the station and have a conversation.
The department has a Facebook page and will share periodic safety tips in the Crier. His email is tmanly@brinnonfire.org.
REVIEW OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH PATRICIA BEATHARD, SUPERINTENDENT
By Bill Barnet, School Board Member
This has been an exciting year for the Brinnon School. With the wonderful support from the Brinnon Community, the school levy passed with a record number of Yes votes!
Since the first day on the job, Trish has been visible and accessible to stu-dents , teachers, parents, and community members. Being in the school full time has developed reliability, trust and consistency.
Student enrollment is holding, with more students remaining in the school.
Volunteers have assisted in the classrooms.
The school was awarded a competitive grant for $24,199 for a new walk-in freezer and refrigerator. Just recently, the school found out that they have received another competitive grant for $200,000 to upgrade, enlarge and purchase new equipment for the school kitchen, plus add new tables for eating.
Bluebills donated some office furniture to improve the appearance of the front office.
Many field trips have been taken; including: Quilcene Hatchery field trip, Hunter Farms field trip, Career Day for 8th Graders at Chimacum, and Young Writers Conference at Peninsula College.
School Activities have included: Fire Prevention Assembly, Fall Festival , Spirit Week, Open House with a Spaghetti Dinner, Winter Program, Classroom Valentine Parties, Spring Talent Show, Loyalty Day Parade participation, and Field Day.
There is a P.T.O. Organization that needs more members. Lisa Johnston, primary teacher at the school, can be contacted to find out more about their activities and meetings.
The school website is www.bsd46.org. Her door is always open.

MY SCHOOL YEARS IN BRINNON
By ISSAC BOLING, 8th Grader
My time as a student at the Brinnon School has been an interesting experience, for me, over the course of these long years. My fa-vorite teacher was Mrs. Mueller. I remember when we tried to hatch chicken eggs and the custodians kept unplugging the incubator so the eggs never hatched. I also remember rac-ing snails and I lost. When I moved into the first and second grade class it was a lot hard-er. All of the kids in Mrs. Johnston’s class would try to get an S+, which in second grade was equivalent to an A. Tragically, she died in a car crash. In third grade, I met Mrs. Co-rey. I had her again in 6th grade. She helped me in Math. In seventh grade, we had a part time afternoon teacher named Miss Crowell. She took Mrs. Corey’s afternoon classes. She was great. I kind of miss her. Over time, be-ing a student at the Brinnon School has been great.
