July 2013 – Sept 2013 Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), London
During a summer internship at the FCA I worked in the Data Analytics and Risk Management departments. I analysed large volumes of financial data received from firms throughout the UK, producing models and reports for publication to the wider market. I monitored hedge funds and other financial institutions closely and worked with the Enforcement Division identifying breaches to the FCA’s statutory objectives. In this role I learned a lot about risk identification, risk measurement, risk mitigation, and risk monitoring and reporting.
June 2011 – August 2011 M&L Manufacturing, Drogheda
Having secured a summer internship at one of the leading manufacturers of electrical distribution panels, I assisted building engineering components such as speed drives and thermal imaging. I tested individual components using voltage and current meters. I carried out Infra-Red analysis on thermal imaging cameras to see if they met customer requirements. Thermal Imaging is a non-contact technology that measures infrared wavelengths to determine temperatures from a safe distance. It is one of the most innovative preventative maintenance techniques to have established itself in the electrical industry over recent years.
