PAPRIKA

Paprika powder is produced by grinding the dried deep red paprika pods of the pepper plant (Capsicum annum L. is the botanical name)

Paprika is the symbol of Hungary's cuisine .

• Its pungency ranges from sweet to mildly hot and very hot, depending of the type of pepper the powder was produced. The color of the spices varies from mild to bright red and there are paprika powder types with brownish color too. • Note that not the brightest red paprika is the hottest! The orange colored one will make you cry. • The hotness is caused by capsaicin, a chemical that is extracted from paprika plants to use in pharmaceutical production due to its pan killer effect • The fresh red pepper is rich in vitamin C (150mg/100g paprika) and other important minerals

Types of Hungarian Paprika In the shops you can find 8 brands of Hungarian paprika varying in color and pungency:

1. Special quality (Különleges) - this is the mildest of all paprikas and has the most vibrant red colour 2. Delicate (csíposmentes csemege) - mild paprika with rich flavour 3. Exquisite delicate (csemege paprika) - slightly more pungent than the Delicate 4. Pungent Exquisite delicate (csípos csemege), even more pungent 5. Noble sweet (édesnemes) – the most common type, slightly pungent with bright red colour, 6. Half-sweet (félédes) – a medium-pungent paprika 7. Rose (rózsa) – light red colour, mildly pungent 8. Hot (eros) – the hottest of all paprikas, light brown-orange colour

SANDOR LAKATOS

The Hungarian designer Sandor Lakatos comes from a sartorial background, establishing his own label in 2005. Sandor is fond of mixing technological fabrics such as used in ping pong balls's in finely tailored designs, a creative mix which has won the heart's of Hungary's Film, Entertainment and Sports VIP's, often seen at important events wearing his particular and elegant creations. Sandor was recently honored at the Hungarian Cultural Center in NYC, he is anxious to expand to the major fashion markets in Europe, the Americas and Asia. Now, besides his always inventive suit collection,Sandor has done a swimsuit and underwear series, all stemming from a few 'base' styles, changing only the fabric and color, as Sandor believes in the minimal ... less is more.

KOLOS SCHILLING

Kolos Schilling is well known in the fashion circles of his native Hungary. Kolos for many years has been a regular on the Budapest scene as an accomplished stylist, art director, costume designer, know especially for his whimsical hats and accessories. There are a few of his pieces photographed in this issue. He has collaborated on nearly a hundred TV Spots, music videos, various televisions shows and films, magazines and national events.
