Where did they live?The Cherokee lived

in the northeastern part of the state and the Tennessee River Valley.

Food/HuntingThe Cherokee

traditionally grew corn,beans,and squash. They hunted deer, bear, and elk.

ShelterThey lived in log

cabins with roofs made of bark.

GovernmentEach Indian group had

it’s own chief.

ReligionAlabama Indians

believed in a supreme being.

Rituals/CeremoniesThe medicine man of the

village usually led the Indians’ ceremonies.

There was a ceremony before each hunt began.

They held a ceremony when it was time to plant and when crops were harvested.

There were also special ceremonies before a battle or when rain was needed.

Unique FactsThey called

themselves “the principal people.” One historian says that the name “Cherokee” was given to them by other tribes.
