PROBLEM

Would we be able to measure air pressure with a home made barometer?

VARIABLES

The time of the day is the independent variable and the air pressure changes depending on the density and temperature of the air. One controlled variable is the altitude.

HYPOTHESIS

If we collect data from the barometer twice a day, the the air pressure will be lower at night and higher at day because air pressure is relate to temperature and at night temperature decreases

We conclude that air pressure didn’t have drastic changes, it was only about 0.5 or 1 mm. We think it have might be because of the weather because almost everyday was cloudy

We collect 14 data points but we don’t think its enough data to make a conclusion about air pressure and climates because we had few time and we were not able to measure it with different types of weathers. We collect the data twice a day for seven days

We think is important to record observations about weather because that way we can see how weather relates to air pressure

Was your data reliable? Explain why or why not.

Our data is reliable because we take time to measure and then make our conclusions. We didn't’t make it fast and we did every step very good,

WAS YOUR DATA

ACCURATE?

We think our data is accurate because we measure the air pressure everyday (2 times) and at the same time. We also check the barometer to see if we were looking good at the measuring.

What change in atmospheric conditions must occur to cause the free end of the straw to rise? What must occur for it to fall?

Lower air pressure made the air that was inside the jar, expands and it made the balloon go up, making the straw to drop. With higher air pressure the air pushes the balloon into the jar making the straw go up.

Low pressure is associated with cold climates and everything that has to do with it because the air that is sunk because of clear weathers rises and forms clouds. High air pressure is the opposite, because it associates with warm weathers because it has more molecules.

If your balloon had a tiny hole in it, what would happen to the accuracy of your barometer?

If the balloon will had a hole the information we recorded would not be accurately because the air will not be pressure because air will be getting out and inside the jar.

WHAT EFFECT, IF ANY, WOULD A GREAT TEMPERATURE HAVE ON THE

ACCURACY OF YOUR BAROMETER?

We think that if that happens then what will cause inaccurate data, because if air pressure decrease the temperature decreases.

CONLUSION

In this lab we learned how temperature affect air pressure and how it changes because of weather. At first our hypothesis was that night air pressure will be lower than in the day but we were not 100% sure, but at the end we saw that our hypothesis was correct. At night, air pressure get down usually 0.5 or 1mm. Another thing we learned was that when there was high pressure, it made the balloon go down and the straw go up and with law pressure is the opposite, the balloon went up but the straw went down. We also learned that high pressure is associated with warm warm weather and low pressure to cold weathers. Two errors that have may affected our results is if the balloon had a hole that we didn’t see and if one of us see the data wrong. To don’t have problems we should be very careful when we see the measurements, when we have the barometer and when we built it, so than later we don’t have problems.
