SBI PO: The Best Bank PO Job you can have
State Bank of India (SBI), the largest commercial bank of the country, recruits every year for the post of probationary officers in its various branches across the country. This is one of the most sought after jobs among banking aspirants because of more salary than other public sector banks along with plenty of opportunities for growth and promotion in career. So, is it really worth what it is held in such high esteem for? Let us look at the pros and cons and we shall try to come at a decision on the basis of that.
SBI PO: The job to get
For banking aspirants, SBI PO is one of the dream jobs that one can get. There are various
reasons attached to that. We shall try to look into what does a SBI PO actually gets once he
joins the prestigious bank as an officer:
• Salary and Allowances: SBI provides four increments in the basic pay compared to other
public sector banks and that makes the monthly emoluments of the bank more than other
public sector banks. This makes SBI the bank to get in for the future bankers.
• Growth and Promotional Avenues: SBI provides the best growth opportunities not only in the
banking sector but also, among the public sector organizations of the country. Once you join as
a PO, you can rise up to the level of Chairman as we can see the present chairman of the bank,
who joined SBI as a PO in 1979. At SBI, you may be promoted to Scale II (entry level is Scale I /
Junior Management Grade Scale) within 2 years if you qualify in the departmental examination
and after that, every three years you are eligible for promotion provided you have the requisite
experience of serving in the rural and semi-urban areas as well as in different capacities in the
bank.
• Social Status: If one is interested in staying in the banking sector, SBI is the best place to be in
because of the social status attached to the job. Compared to any other public sector bank, SBI
provides higher social status and self esteem.
• A Lifetime of Learning Opportunities: SBI has a very large organization and there are many
verticals in their business. Therefore, as an employee of SBI, you get plenty of different
opportunities in different aspects of banking. It makes the job an interesting one because it is
not only about branch banking but much more than that.

• Perquisites: SBI provides a number of perks to its employees such as book grant, newspaper
allowance, phone bill, conveyance allowance, briefcase allowance, medical facilities, LTC /
LFC Facilities, loans at concessional rates of interest etc.
SBI notification is around the corner and it is the time to pull up your socks if you are ready to
give it your best.

SBI PO Exam 2017: Preparation Strategy to crack it
SBI PO notification is out with more than 2400 vacancies all over the country and as the last year, this year also the exam is going to be conducted by the bank in three phases namely Prelims, Mains followed by Group Discussion and Interview round. The prelims examination is scheduled on 29th and 30th April and 06th and 07th May 2017.
SBI PO 2017: The Exam Pattern
The SBI PO examination 2017 is going to be in three phases:
Preliminary examination
Mains examination
Group Discussion and interview
The phase I Examination i.e. Preliminary examination consists of the following tests:
Name of the Test No of Questions Maximum marks allotted

Quantitative Aptitude 35 35
English language 30 30
Total 100 100
The phase II or the mains examination consists of the following tests:

7 Banking & SSC e-book Feb,2017

Total 155 200 180 minutes
This will immediately followed by a descriptive test of 50 marks of English Language and the duration of the test will be 30 minutes.
The phase III examination will be Group Discussion and interview of 20 marks and 30 marks respectively.
Your selection in the examination will be based on your marks in the mains examination and the marks in GD-PI round.
SBI PO 2017: Your Preparation Strategy
From the examination pattern, we can get an idea that you need to prepare the following subjects:
English Language
Reasoning
Quantitative Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation
Computer Knowledge
General / Economy / Banking Awareness
We are going to discuss your strategy based on these subjects:
English language: This has been the nemesis for all the aspirants in the recent banking
examinations. You have around three months in hand and your first job is to search for
the latest examination pattern. Then clear your basics in this subject regarding grammar
topics and after that you are supposed to practice as much as possible. English language
in banking examinations is mainly based on your ability to contextualize things rather
than your grammar prowess. You need to go through a standard grammar book first and
finish it within March and in the remaining days, go for mock tests of standard and
similar pattern. This will bring you good marks in this examination, for sure.
Reasoning Ability: Reasoning is all about practice since you know most of the topics and
you are not required to learn anything. So, practice puzzles, sitting arrangement
questions etc as much as possible. You will get section tests as well or go for any
standard reasoning aptitude books for the time being. Once you have gone through all
8 Banking & SSC e-book Feb,2017
the relevant chapters, go for mock tests. Try to finish the syllabus within March so that
the last one month can be devoted to mock tests and intensive practice in a time bound
manner.
Quantitative Aptitude, Data analysis and data interpretation: This is going to be most
difficult section in this examination as has been observed in the last year examination.
You need to be well versed in all the subjects that come in banking examinations such as
ratio and proportion, age, average, time and work, time and distance etc from any good
and standard book. Clear your concepts within this month so that for the whole month
of March you can practice questions from each chapter as many as you can. April month
should be devoted to full length mock tests so that your time management is perfect
on the examination day. Jagranjosh provides mock tests to help students prepare for
real exam.
General Awareness / Banking Awareness / Economy: This is going to be the most
scoring section in the examination if you prepare well and revise well. First thing is to go
through the current affairs on a daily basis. Supplement with a chapter of banking
awareness till the end of March. Again, in April, keep track of current affairs on a daily
basis and apart from that, go for full length mock tests so that you are exam ready.
Computer Knowledge: Well, this section is also becoming complicated with every
passing examination. You need to go through a standard computer book till the end of
March month and finish all the chapters with may be one chapter per day or per two
days as per the time available to you.
SBI PO examination is your way to work towards realizing your dream of becoming an officer with the largest commercial bank of the country.
Best of Luck!
