RCHS Concert Band trav-eled to Madison Central tocompete in the District 11KMEA Concert Band Fes-tival. This annual rite ofspring involves many re-hearsals on two or threecomplicated pieces of mu-sic. The band is judged ontheir performance and thenon a group sight reading.The sight reading entailsplaying a piece never seenbefore. This year the RCHSConcert Band prepared“River Wind” by FrankErickson which featuredMackezie Craig soloing onhorn, “Tocata” by GirolamoFrescobaldi which featuredthe woodwind section, and"In Flight” by Samuel R.Hazo featuring percussion-ists Jarrett Hamm and DylanHillard on snare and timpanisolo.

The RCHS ConcertBand includes Seniors: MattFields (trombone), MalloryHarper (percussion), DaltonHutton (alto saxophone),Elliot Jackson (percussion),Ethan Miller (trumpet), andSarah Morgan (flute). Jun-iors: Mark Berry (trumpet),Megan Gray (percussion),Jarrett Hamm (percussion),Jake Mink (trombone),Kyle Shelton (percussion),Josh Stallsworth (tenorsaxophone), and WillWalker(trumpet). Sopho-mores: Adam Alcorn (trum-pet), Michael Brewer (trom-bone), Sarah Burdine (per-cussion), Caleb Coffey(flute), Laiken Coffey(trumpet), Rylan Cromer(alto saxophone), MattGonzalez (baritone), Jamie

The very next day, theRCMS Concert Band trav-eled to Madison Central fortheir competition. They alsoworked very hard preparingtheir pieces. They played“Reflections” by JamesSwearingen which featuredShelby Ponder on solo flute,and “Andromeda Overture”by Mark Williams whichfeatured trumpet soloistLevi Sparks. The RCHS ConcertBand scored a high Profi-cient Plus in playing and aDistinguished in sight read-ing! Congratulations to allthose who participated inthe KMEA Concert BandFestival. You did well inrepresenting Rockcastle!And special congratulationsto the 8th graders who aremembers of both bands:Timmy Baugh (tuba),Shelby Brown (percussion),Allison Estes (trombone),Jessi Harris (oboe),Shanoah Shelton(clarinet),Sierra Smith(clarinet), Levi Sparks(trumpet), and CaseyWalker (alto saxophone)..You worked hard!

want to share with the bandthe compliments of Ms JulieHamm, mother of LadyRocket Holly Hamm. Shewas very grateful for theband’s support of the LadyRockets during the 2011season and tournaments.She felt that the experiencewould not have been thesame without them andwanted the entire band toknow how much they areappreciated. Fundraising is a neces-sary part of any band pro-gram to help offset the highcosts and provide opportu-nities for all students whowish to be involved in themusic programs here inRockcastle.

This Friday, April 1st –Theme Party. It will be heldin the High School Cafete-ria at 6:00. Everyone iswelcome! This event in-cludes dinner, auction, andentertainment!

Monday, April 4th –Pizza Hut Night! Start plan-ning now to eat out.Whether dining in or carry-ing out, mention the bandand you can know that youhelped them out.

April 16th – 2011 MainStreet Car and TractorShow. This event will takeplace at Mt. Vernon El-ementary with registrationstarting at 10:00am andawards at 2:00. DJ "Coun-try Charlie" Napier will bepresiding and there will befood and fun for all! Comeon out – there'll be trophiesand door prizes galore!

Six members of the Rockcastle Chapter of Daughters of American Revolutionmet with the Rockcastle County High School Book Club on March 25th. EachDAR member read a book chosen by the book club. Then each DAR member leda discussion with the group of students who had read the same book. Mrs. LauraDurham, retired librarian has arranged this activity with Mrs. Janet Wells, cur-rent librarian, for the last several years. Pictured seated: Laura Durham andTonya Cook. BrodheadAlumniBanquetis April 23

It’s almost Spring timeand that means it’s AlumniBanquet time. This year, thebanquet will be held Satur-day, April 23rd at 7 p.m.

The classes of 36, 41, 46,51, 56, 61, 66 and 71 willbe honored. Please keep inmind that all graduates andall friends are welcome toattend and renew old friend-ships and relive old memo-ries.
