Couplings for Oil and Gas
For over 50 years Metastream couplings have been operating successfully in the oil and gas industryto ensure plants operate at their optimum performance. The first choice of the majority of the world’senergy suppliers, constant innovations in the design and supply of Metastream couplings ensure thatchanging demands are met and fully comply with API specifications.
Global Support
As a truly global coupling supplier, John Crane is able
to offer unparalleled customer service and technical
support from the design stage to commissioning and
inventory management over the lifetime of the plant.
Operating from over 200 facilities worldwide in over 50
countries, John Crane offers specialised local support forinstallation, shaft alignment and troubleshooting.
Upstream Installations, Extraction,Pipelines and Gas Transmission
Whether you are operating in the cold of Alaska or
Siberia, the dusty heat of the Middle East, the corrosive
environment of the North Sea or in areas of high humidity,
Metastream couplings are designed to meet your needs,
safely and reliably. Metastream couplings provide
solutions for both land based and offshore extraction in
all areas such as gas compressors, crude oil, sea water
injection, diesel and potable water pumps. For liquid and
gas pipelines, especially remote stations where absolute
reliability and safety are of paramount importance,
Metastream can be relied on to give exceptional
performance.

Downstream Installations
John Crane offers a complete range of couplings for all
refinery applications, from the pumps and steam turbines
on crude distillation units to gas compressors and onto the
various final product plants and storage facilities.
Although the range of duties and sizes of couplingscan be varied, modular design of both the T&M Series
ensures standardisation and keeps spares to an absolute
minimum. This is aided by various software programmes
designed and developed by John Crane’s team of in-house
software engineers.
For less critical areas, the Metastream range of industrial
membrane and Powerstream elastomeric couplings meet
the total requirements of any site.
Training
Training programmes combining theoretical aspects
of coupling technology with hands on installation and
alignment maintenance are available either on your site
or at a John Crane training facility.

The ultimate in plant safety as loads due to misalignment
and overhung masses are low, ensuring resultant loads
on machinery bearings are minimised so extending life
and reliability. Should extreme overload or excessive
misalignment occur, M Series coupling will safely
disconnect the drive while alerting the plant operator.

T Series Range of Couplings
The T Series scalloped membrane design offers
outstanding ability to accept shaft misalignment with low
imposed forces on equipment bearings.
Unique modular design allows the correctly rated coupling
to be selected even on large shaft equipment, thus
removing the need to supply oversized couplings.
The main drive bolts are fitted with overload collars toprevent membrane rupture in the event of severe torsional
overload.
The spacer is retained by specially designed anti-fly guard
rings to ensure safe operation, even in the unlikely event of
membrane and bolt failure.

Couplings for Oil and Gas
Couplings with Long Distance BetweenShaft Ends (DBSE)
Both T & M Series couplings can be supplied with long
spacers in steel or composites for both horizontal and
vertical applications. The M Series, manufactured in
stainless steel with a composite spacer is particularly
suited for use on force draught cooling fans.
Short DBSE Couplings
T Series couplings can be supplied for short DBSE as small
as 3 mm, replacing maintenance intensive gear couplings.
Spark Resistant Couplings
Hazardous areas in renery operations require spark
resistant couplings. This is achieved by replacing the
membrane unit on the M Series and the overload collars
on the T Series with components manufactured from non
ferrous metals.
Axial Adjustment Shims
Where coupling hubs are fitted onto taper shafts, axial
adjustment shims can be incorporated. As the position of
the hubs cannot be accurately set on the shaft, shims are
supplied so the correct length of the transmission unit can
be easily achieved.
Electrically Insulated CouplingsTo stop electrical currents damaging bearings when electric
motors are connected to generators or have equipment
connected at each end, electrical insulation is incorporated
in one hub. This allows standard transmission units to be
used, so reducing spares inventory.
Standard Options for Metastream Coupling
The modular design of the both T & M Series couplings allow several options and additions to thestandard ranges without impacting on leadtimes. It also ensures that spares requirements are kept toa minimum.
