PIOTR NALIWAJKO

He was born in 1960 in Swietoclowice, Poland. In the years 1979-1984 he studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Cracow. Since 1983, together with L. Żegalski and J. Szpyt has created an informal group called Trio Bloated, which is called New Normal Dadaists. He has participated in over one hundred exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in the National Exhibition of Young Artists "Arsenal '88" in Warsaw. The largest collection of his work is in Wurzburg (Germany).

In the 80s painters were giving artistic manifestos, they were known form theirprovocative speeches against public criticism and negation of traditional art. They painted large paintings on eg. Tent canvas. Naliwajko, like his colleagues in the group, paints realistically, and his images are perfect workshop. He uses rich metaphors, derived from a variety of eras and belonging to different traditions.

He does not avoid the irony, ridicule, and obscene topics, which means that his work is described as provocative and outrageous (Our video, Christ on the bus, arrival of Christ to Chorzow). The artist paints mostly portraits and figural compositions. A part of his work was influenced bypaintings of J. Malczewski. Nalivajko sometimes leads a direct dialogue with the Malczewski, as exemplified by the work of At jacks note II or Travesty of the famous canvas Thanatos.
