Learning & Teaching Kindergarten Registration is continuing...
. . . for the 2016 - 2017 school year. Registration forms are available on
YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca. Children who turn four or five years old
during 2016, live within the school boundary and whose parents are public school
tax supporters will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten
information session for parents is planned for Thursday, May 5, 2016 at
6:30 pm. For more information please visit the YRDSB website or contact the
office.
Planning for September
The process of preparing for a new school year involves predicting student
enrolment and structuring the organization of classes and teachers to match
the enrolment. We ask that families assist us with these preparations by informing the office (in writing) if you are moving out of the Aurora Grove area. Please include the last day of attendance and the school your child(ren) will be
attending. This will also facilitate in the transfer of your child’s records (OSR).
Thank you!
Worth Repeating...Gr. 2 French Immersion Students transferring to
Lester B Pearson PS for Sept. 2016
Our Grade 2 French Immersion students will be transferred by our school
secretary to Lester B Pearson PS for September 2016. There is no need to
register your child at Lester B Pearson PS as this is an automatic process.
Please note that as part of the transition process our grade 2 FI students will
be going on a field trip to Lester B Pearson PS to participate in an orientation
session planned for the morning of Thursday, May 19th. Details are forthcoming.
EQAO
Our Grade 3 and Grade 6 EQAO testing is tentatively scheduled to be held
sometime between May 25 and June 8. Please do not schedule any medical
appointments during that time. Information is available at www.eqao.com and
additional information will be sent directly to those parents. We strongly
encourage Grade 3 and Grade 6 parents to explore the website and EQAO
resources will also be shared with students in preparation for the assessments.
Environment, Engagement, Equity & Inclusivity APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
April 2, 2016 will mark a historic day in Canada for the autism community. For
the fourth year, Canadians will officially recognize World Autism Awareness
Aurora Grove Gazette

Day.
As a means of increasing public awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the day-to-day
challenges faced by people with autism and their families, Autism Ontario has invited schools across the
province to participate in the 2016 Raise the Flag campaign.
Thank you for helping us fundraise and being a part of the province-wide celebration of World Autism
Awareness Day. This year April 2nd falls on a Saturday so celebrated on Monday, April 4, 2016. Students
were encouraged to wear their house colours on April 4th to show their school spirit and their support for
autism awareness. Also, the first week of April (April 4 – April 8) we have been collecting “Toonies”, or any
change, for Autism Ontario.
The donations received from schools will go to supporting the creation of awareness material so we can continue
to educate students across the province about Autism Spectrum Disorder. We believe in empowering children
and youth to help remove the barriers people on the spectrum face in their daily lives.

VOLUNTEERS IN OUR SCHOOL
Parent volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated at our school. In accordance with the York Region
District School Board’s Policies and Procedures, all volunteers who may be interacting with students are
required to have a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS). Once you have obtained your VSS, please submit it to
the office. If you obtained your VSS last year, all you need to do is drop by the office to sign an Annual
Offence Declaration and a Confidentiality Agreement. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Board Policies and Procedures
Policies and procedures govern the operation of the Board and our school. To ensure they remain current, the
Board reviews policies and procedures on a regular cycle. Seeking feedback from staff and community members,
including parents/guardians, is an important part of the review process.
All policies available for comment are sent to school council chairs, and are posted on the Board website along
with information about how to provide feedback. The policies currently available for comment include:
Student Accommodation Review (comments due by April 25)
Anaphylactic Reactions (comments due by August 25)
