Warm-up preparation
• Please ensure that the complete car is in roadworthy condition and stands on flat surface
• Remove engine bonnet
• Lift the car with the air-jack system and mount the safeties
• Check the level off all fluids (see engine and gearbox setup)
• The battery has to be charged and/or should be connected to a charging station
• Mount the start-up-wheel-hub at the rear axle
• Check the gearpotentiometer value in neutral position (850 mV)
• Care for a good ventilation in the pit box / garage …
• Main switch on, then ignition on
• Switch ASR off = switch to position zero (far left)
• Connect the Lite-XS Cable into the plug at the drivers door, read out the failure memory of the car via
DIAGRA-LE, if necessary delete it. But keep in mind, that some adaption values are zero after
deleting the failure protocol
• Ensure that the neutral gear position is engaged
R8 LMS Handbook
Warm-up / Cool down of engine & gearbox
Warm up procedure
• Start the car -> Press the clutch and the start button
• Shift up to the sixth gear (see Upshifting)
If the gearbox is cold (t_gearbox < 50°C) it is better to use the clutch for upshifting to 6th gear.
• Heat up engine oil with ~2500rpm in sixth gear to ~ 60°C
• From this point continue with 3500rpm until the gearbox oil temperature is ~ 60°C
• Have a look at the water temperature, it should not rise above 115°C,
if necessary put a fan in front of the car
• Check that the fan in front of the water radiator starts to rotate at 100°C
Cool down procedure
• Shift down from sixth gear to neutral (see Downshifting)
• Run the engine 2 minutes in idle speed
• Switch off ignition, the engine stops and switch on ignition again without starting the engine
• Wait one minute and check the oil level of the engine (see Engine setup)
• Visual check of all fluid levels
• Inspect the engine in matter of leakages, damages, electrical and wiring problems
• Connect the Lite-XS Cable into the plug at the drivers door, read out the failure memory of the car via
DIAGRA-LE, if necessary delete it.
• Switch of Ignition and main switch
Shifting
Generally
• Before driving heat up gearbox to a minimum of 60° (see Warm-up)
• For upshifting you have to apply a minimum of 10% throttle!
• For downshifting you have to be off throttle!
• Watch display for gear engaged
Upshifting
• Use clutch for
– Shifting from neutral to 1st gear
– Shifting from reverse to neutral
• Do not use clutch for
– Shifting up from 1st gear to 6th gear
Downshifting
• Use clutch for
– Shifting from 1st gear to neutral
– Shifting from neutral to reverse
• Do not use clutch for
– Shifting up down from 6th gear to 1st gear
R8 LMS Handbook
Shifting
Shifting problems
• If you are stuck between two gears, what may happen e.g. caused by a dog to dog situation
- press clutch
- apply shifting paddle in the direction you want
- release cluch gently
- carry on shifting without using the clutch
• If you are not able to shift in neither direction:
- use switch “Gear Shift Emergency“ on dashboard. This mode will enable you to continue shifting
bypassing the sensor input values
- for upshift use no clutch
- for downshift without clutch a throttle blib need to be applied manually. If this is not possible, use
clutch
- return to the pit and check compressor, shift-cylinder and gear potentiometer

Pitspeed limiter
Pispeed Limiter handling / setting
• The pitspeedlimiter is activated by pushing the “cruise control“ lever to the front.
• It limits the revs in first gear to 4880 rpm ± a configurable offset value so you can apply full throttle
without overstepping.
• A warning will appear on the first three DDU-pages.
• To deactivate the limiter push back the lever.
• To set the offset value do the following steps:
– open Diagra_LE
– open "motorelectronic 01"
– open "10 - adaption"
– open "channel 1" – "vstnls offset neutral/idle set speed "
Factory setting is a speed of 4880 rpm
– on "test value" enter an offset. For example „-100“. Click „test“ – „save“ – „yes“
– now the neutral / idle set speed is saved by 4780 rpm. The pitspeed in first gear is now a
little bit slower as factory setting. 100rpm ≈ 1,239km/h
– with "read" you are able to check the actual entry
– make the same procedure also with „motorelectronic 11“
– The value in both motorelectronic devices have to be the same!
