Hymn UMH 292 WONDROUS LOVE *
The ancient practice of stripping the Lord’s table and
sanctuary following communion is a vivid and dramatic way of
showing the desolation and abandonment of the long night in Gethsemane and what followed.
Stripping of the Sanctuary
What Wondrous Love Is This
(verse 1: All; verse 2: Women; verse 3: Men; verse 4: All)
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself
to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give
ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Servant Song
Brandon Trent and Ambria Collins Richard Gillard
Brother, sister, let me serve you let me be as Christ to you; pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.
We are pilgrims on a journey; we're together on this road. We are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you in the nighttime of your fear; I will hold my hand out to
you, speak the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping; when you laugh, I'll laugh with you. I will share your joy
and sorrow till we've seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven, we shall find such harmony, born of all we've known
together of Christ's love and agony.

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.

Invitation
Prayer of Confession
My sisters and brothers, Christ shows us his love by becoming a humble servant. Let us
draw near to God and confess our sin in the truth of God’s spirit.
Most Merciful God, we your Church confess that often our spirit has not been that of
Christ. Where we have failed to love one another as he loves us, where we have
pledged loyalty to him with our lips and then betrayed, deserted, or denied him, forgive
us, we pray; and by your Spirit make us faithful in every time of trial; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ. But Christ suffered and died for us, was
raised from the dead and ascended on high for us, and continues to intercede for us.
Believe the good news: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
The Great Thanksgiving
(The pastor gives thanks appropriate to the occasion, remembering God’s acts of salvation,
and concludes:)
