November 2012 ZI Membership Manual extended, pages 29-35 on E-Club Membership Guidance

Highlights and Key Ideas

Zonta E-members conduct Zonta business and participates in meetings using the internet (Skype Facebook) and other electronic media.

Members are encouraged to attend at least one face-to-face meeting per year e.g. District Conference, Area Meeting or International Convention.

An E-membership serves as a tool to conveniently attend meetings and communicate with members. It is especially helpful for those with busy work or personal schedules as it does not require travel time.

Key Ideas for E-membership

E-membership is not an ‘opt out’ option. It is great tool for those members who do not live

close to an existing Zonta club, or where circumstances require a member to be absent from their home club for a period of time, eg PNG.

Allows the convenience of attending meetings electronically in the comfort of you chosen location.

E-members pay the same fees; receive the same benefits; report activities in newsletters and can raise funds, provide service or advocacy in their community.

E-Clubs

An E-Club requires at least 25 individuals to charter.

Recommend that at least 20% are current or former Zontians.

Optimal position is 4o% are current or former Zontians.

As with any Zonta club membership shall be limited to classified members.

E-Clubs and Membership

An existing Zontian desiring to be a charter member of an E-Club MUST resign membership in their existing Zonta club by the time the new E-club is admitted to ZI.

Members of E-clubs are able to participate in any other e-club or traditional club meeting that is convenient for them if they wish to do so.

Zontians are encouraged to reach out to other clubs when they are travelling to make connections with other Zontians.

The Future

Members of E-clubs or traditional clubs are also welcome to visit another E-club or traditional club for a meeting or to make up a meeting for missed attendance.

See pages 29-35 of Membership Manual for full details.

To establish a District E-club we require some office bearers and then seek potential new members with no access to a club or commitments that deny face-to-face meetings.

In District 22 we can work together to collate members requesting E-membership of their own club or a new E-club.

To quote Lynn McKenzie International President

Don’t wait for the leadership to tell you how to recruit members.

In your society, you are the one who knows best

Just do it! See the guidelines on Classification and make a way for e-members to work!

Membership in Zonta not only means working for a good cause; it also means valuable friendship.

Share your joy in Zonta!
