SHOOTERS TO THE LINE

Stand at line perpendicular to the targetDo not pick up bow or arrows

PICK UP BOW

Hold bow parallel to the ground, arrow rest up, strings toward you, and hand on top

NOCK ARROW1. Pick up arrow by the shaft of the arrow near the fletching2. Keep bow parallel to the ground3. Nock arrow with index feather up4. Keep arrow pointing toward the target

SET YOUR HOOKS1. Place 3 fingers on strings– Use first knuckle or fleshy part of fingers– Use index, middle, and ring fingers below nock– Pinky and thumb do not touch the string– Do not bend second knuckle or clench fist

RAISE THE BOW AND DRAW• Stay perpendicular to the target, raise the bow

to the ceiling and draw– Make sure you pull string all the way back

ANCHOR• Anchor somewhere around your chin or your cheek

– The anchor point should always be the same place– The single most important phase of shooting in archery is

consistency– Don’t panic…take your time

AIM• Using dominant eye or closing the eye farthest from the string,

look straight down the arrow at the target– Make corrections in your aim from one shot to the next by moving the

bow hand– Don’t panic…take your time

SAFETY CHECKS• Make sure finger and knuckle

is not near the arrow• Slight bend in elbow• One last check

SHOOT• When aim is good and you’ve gone through

your safety checks, just point fingers toward the target

RETRIEVE YOUR ARROWS• When given the command, walk to the target and retrieve

arrows– Put one hand on target as close to arrow as possible– Use other hand to grab arrow as close the target as possible– Pull arrow straight out
