Located at a high altitude in the forested mountains of Angangueo, Mich, Mexico, The Monarch House embraces the sacred land dominated by the hundreds of millions migrating Monarch butterflies. Monarch House emerges from the hilltop, to create a place of refuge and vistas. The open interior provides a private but airy ambient experience that is designed to the scale of both human & butterfly. The development of the exterior represents the idea of interaction and coexistence at different scales.

The concrete for the walls is cast into specially constructed formwork designed to provide the interior with natural light/views & refuge for butterflies along the exterior. Narrow vertical openings, or slits, are cast into concrete to attract the butterflies. The mass of the concrete provides the warm exterior surface that they prefer. The thermal lag of the walls maintains a cool interior temperature for the human house dwellers.

Adungu Pavilion

steel cableconnection detail

Adungu is a traditional sudanese musical instrument and one of many arched harps found in sub-Saharan Africa. The Adungu Pavilion takes its form after two adungus that balance each other on the ground, representing the two newly created South and North nations of Sudan. The arched harps incorporate musical strings between the tension cables, allowing visitors to interact with the pavilion and re ect on the relationship between music and peace.

AMBO F5FUNCTIONAL DESIGN + STYLISH DURABILITY

The Lambo F5 serves as an emergency shelter that is private, durable and safe while still remaining elegantly designed. The Lambo’s form rejects the idea of the typical box shelter. It’s original and unique design provides great strength against the elements, while providing its occupants with a pleasing and dignified space. The emergency shel-ter can be easily mass-produced and rapidly installed due to its efficient bolt and notch connections. The interior space can accommodate (2) adults for day and night time use.

“Dragging gut”

Existing RiverDiscovery Center

ProposedStructure

Ohio-TennesseeRiver

Ohio-TennesseeRiver

The existing configuration of the “Dragging gut” is not only a significant connector of the two main primary streets, but it also serves as an impor-tant landmark of attraction to Paducah. The purpose of this design is to preserve the “Dragging gut” concept while also incorporating a modern site and structure that are rich in circulation and vantage points. Inspired by the fluctu-ating movement of the river, the different elevations, angles, solids and voids aim to provide unique interactions with the changing tide.

REmove I-10The existing I-10 has divided the community for 50 years, time in which: -Businesses have declined more than 65%. -Local lot values have dropped more than 50% -The residents’ social interaction/culture traditions have become limited

The revitalization of Claiborne Avenue will revive and stimulate the economic and social values of Treme’s neigh-borhoods without taking away from existing businesses and social networks. The project’s goal is to allow for the full expression of Treme’s historical culture and traditions, while also bringing forward a new design concept. With time, the design aims to provide Treme with an enhanced vivid community supplied with a landmark of its own.
