The Latest News from Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club
Citation preview
Everywhere we turn we are reminded to do our part to protect the environment and effectively, “GO
GREEN.” Well, we have decided to take a little different approach to the “GO GREEN” concept. After
all, the golf course is starting to turn GREEN and the club has 18 of the Best GREENS. Most
importantly, our new membership plan is designed to save a lot of “GREEN” for anyone interested in
joining and also put some “GREEN” back in your pockets per referral. So we are making it easy for
everyone to “GO GREEN” at Verdict Ridge in 2010 and protect the Club environment.
If you know of anyone who has ever considered joining a club, then ask them to be a part of our great club.
Each member has their own reasons for what makes Verdict Ridge special. For some it is the quality of the
course, for others it is the camaraderie and for some it is that sweet lady that runs our snack bar! It is up to
you to tell your own story......but this offer is sure to help!

$600 Sports Membership + $205 monthly dues

PLAYING LESSON

“KEEP YOUR LEFT WRIST FLAT”
The most important moment of the golf swing is impact.
The most important thing to remember is that with a
neutral grip the back of the left hand represents the
clubface.
Simply put: If the back of the left hand is facing the
target, that is where the ball will go!
Practice hitting balls focusing on keep your left wrist flat
and hitting down on the ball. This will produce a striking
blow that will allow the ball to fly long and true.
Stop by the Pro Shop and I will be happy to show you how

The official kickoff to our membership drive at the club will be a night of excitement. With just one week before the
Kentucky Derby we have decided to enjoy a night of horse racing on the big screen. There will be at least 8 actual
horse races to give participants an actual race experience. Pick your long shot, bet the Trifecta or bet on the
favorite. Funny money prizes will be awarded through Golf Shop gift certificates. But you can also just sit back and
watch and cheer. The true focus of the night is to welcome new members to the club and invite along those whom
you think may be interested in joining. We imagine there will be some cheering at the following races:
NEW MEMBERS RACE: For the last race of the evening, each NEW member will be able to randomly draw a
horse, with the winner taking home a $600 club gift certificate (or split among all co-owners).
FOUNDING MEMBERS RACE: For the next to last race of the night, one family member per membership will get
to randomly draw a horse. The owner of the winning horse will enjoy a free month’s worth of Golf dues $255 (or
split among all co-owners).
So get out and invite your friends. There will be no pressure to join, but they just might consider it after seeing
how much fun we have. YES ladies we want to see you in your biggest Derby style hats or come casual. Mint Juleps
will be the drink special for the evening along with specials on select Whiskeys and Bourbon. Hors d’ oeuvres
stations will be available throughout the room and Derby Pie will top off the night.
EVENT COST: $20 per member ++ Registered Prospects -- FREE

SPRING GREEN-UP
With the onset of spring everyone is ready to dust off their golf clubs and get back on the course. The next few weeks
should bring on warm temperatures and green Bermudagrass. During spring green-up Bermudagrass is the most
vulnerable to damage as it uses stored carbohydrate reserves (plant food) to start growing again. Because the plants are
in a very vulnerable state we try and be more cautious when deciding cart rules on busy days. High traffic during anything
but the driest of conditions will substantially inhibit the plant’s ability to recover from a harsh winter like the one we just
experienced. Excessive wear during this 4-6 week stretch can leave the course with bare areas that no one likes to see.
Please help give our turfgrass the best possible chance to recover by obeying the cart rules. This will not only give the
fairways and roughs the best chance to grow it will help reduce the overall cost of turfgrass repair and replacement. We
would like to ask that everyone do his\her part in helping keep our course in as good a condition as possible.
Thanks for you help, patience, and understanding.
WELCOME - ERIC MORGAN
Assistant Golf Professional
Eric Morgan was recently hired as assistant golf
professional at Verdict Ridge. Eric is a resident of
Sherrills Ford and has been in the golf business for 15
years. Originally from Pinehurst, Eric spent 7 years at
River Run as an assistant and previously at Salisbury
Country Club.
Eric has the ability to teach all level of players, but he has
a particular interest in teaching junior golfers and that
appealed to us as a club. Eric plans to institute a new
junior program that is year round and he will work with
your child in an atmosphere to allow them to grow their
game but make sure that they continue to have fun. He
hopes to utilize the swing monitoring system to show
progress of his students.
Eric begins work April 5th, so stop by and say hello!

JEFF CROUSE LANDS HEAD SUPERINTENDENT JOB!
Congratulations to our very own, Jeff Crouse, for landing the
head superintendent position at Chockoyotte Country Club in
Weldon, NC. Jeff has been with Verdict Ridge for over 10
years and has been a tremendous asset to this club. While
Jeff's departure will be difficult to replace, we have been his
biggest supporters as we felt Jeff deserved the opportunity to
become a head superintendent. Jeff is now the second
Verdict Ridge assistant superintendent to go on to become
the head man at another club, which is not bad for a club
barely 11 years old.
Chockoyotte is a small 150 member club in a little bedroom
community beside Roanoke Rapids, NC (think 1 hour north of
Raleigh off I-95). The front 9 holes were designed by Donald
Ross and the back 9 holes by Ellis Maples. All that is missing
is a quality superintendent to bring it back to its glory days
and i know that their members are eagerly anticipating Jeff's
arrival. As one Chockoyotte member wrote, "if Jeff can get
our club to look as half as good as Verdict Ridge does, he
will get a lifetime contract." Best of luck Jeff and thank you
for all of your hard work and good luck with your new job.
We know you will do great!
