M8 Alliance
The M8 Alliance is the collaborative network of world-wide academic medical centers,
universities and academies, composed of 25 members from 18 countries, whose main mission is
the improvement of global health (medicine, research and care). All members are committed to
the evolution of global health, working with policy makers and economists to develop
scientifically proven solutions to the health challenges of the world.

Portugal represented by Coimbra Health, the consortium formed by the University of
Coimbra (UC) and the Coimbra Hospital and University Center (CHUC) took over the
presidency of the M8 Alliance in October 17, 2017.

MAIN & REGIONAL MEETINGS
World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2018, Coimbra – Portugal will be devoted to
Global Health in African countries.
Portugal maintains close links, not only made up of centuries of history, but also
affective, cultural, linguistic, political, economic and diplomatic with the countries that
now constitute the CPLP - Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (Angola,
Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Equatorial, Mozambique, São Tomé e
Príncipe and East Timor), and will take this unique opportunity of the World Health
Summit Regional Meeting to draw the world's attention to the terrible problems most
of these countries face in the context of public health.
