Sub: Application for registration in 1-week training workshop on “Geoinformatics in Geology”
Dear Sir,
I wish to register myself for attending the workshop on “Geoinformatics in Geology” scheduled to beheld from 20th to 25th June, 2016, in your department. I would be obliged if you can kindly offer me the
opportunity to attend the workshop by short listing my candidature to register for the said course. Myprofessional particulars are mentioned below for your kind reference.
Name of the Applicant : Shri Parag Jyoti Dutta
Designation : Assistant Professor
Communication Address : Department of Geology, Cotton College, Guwahati-781001
Mobile : +91-9435147419
Email : paragjdutta@gmail.com
Educational Qualifications : M.Sc. (Geology); M.Tech. (Geoexploration)
Teaching Assignment : Geospatial modelling of natural hazards and phenomena
Research area : Landslide susceptibility analysis by geospatial techniques
Usefulness of the proposed training programme
Geologic processes and phenomena are often spatial in nature. Hence, geologic properties and
parameters are characterized by a range of values with spatial continuity. In order to generate a
quantitative model of these processes, the primary requirement is to create a spatial database usinggeospatial tools such as remote sensing, GIS and GPS. Once the spatial database is created, the
processes can be quantified with mathematical and statistical functions with spatial and/or temporalconnectivity. These mathematical and statistical operations can be implemented in a GIS with inbuilt
customized algorithms specific to the problem in hand. Thus, the theoretical and operational knowledge
of these modern geospatial tools and techniques can automate the conventional technical procedures
with significant efficiency, precision and accuracy. Hence, I believe that the knowledge that would begained by attending the proposed training programme would facilitate advancement in both my
teaching and research initiatives at a professional level.
Thanking you.
Yours sincerely,
Parag Jyoti Dutta
