1.0 INTRODUCTION This operations and maintenance manual was created by the Santa Barbara Ventura chapter of Engineers Without Borders and is intended to describe the operations and maintenance practices for the Elerai-Olmoti Water Supply Project to the Maasai living in the Elerai village and Olmoti sub-village. The project system transports water 5.6 km from the Elerai water storage tank to the Olmoti Clinic, Olmoti water storage tank, and 4 tap stands.

2.0 SYSTEM OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES Water fees will be collected from the Elerai-Olmoti community for operations and repairs on a monthly basis by the Maasai appointed caretaker of the water tap, in accordance with the fee schedule. The Maasai appointed caretaker of the water tap will be in charge of tracking how much water each family uses each month, collecting the fees, and paying the fees to the Hai District.

3.0 SYSTEM USAGE While collecting water at the tap stand, it is important to not spill water while filling the bucket. Make sure to close the valve completely after water collection is complete.

5.0 SYSTEM MAINTENANCE The Elerai-Olmoti community will form a Water Board, consisting of 5 men and 5 women from the community and elected annually to identify maintenance needs by walking the pipeline and inspecting tanks on a monthly basis, and to report maintenance needs to the Magadini Makiwaru Water Supply (MMWS) engineer or technicians immediately when identifying a problem.
