national rates.
• Strategies – Infant Mortality:
• Effectively serve at-risk infants through Healthy Start; increase
breastfeeding rates; engage & support fathers, reach Hispanics,
continue NFP, staff training, web-based data entry
• Progress
• ↓ Infant screening rates, initial contacts, Level III services
• ↓ IM rates
• Baby Friendly Hospitals
• Fatherhood groups and services expanded: Administration and Children
and Families 2015-2020 Grant. Fatherhood Taskforce created.
• Proposed Changes: Implement a coordinated intake and referral system
and conduct training with all hospital staff who administer the HS screen.

INFANCY
• Strategies – Post-neonatal deaths:
• The Players Center for Child Health Partnership, SUIDS prevention
education, Children's University

• Sleep-related deaths are on the rise (16 percent of deaths)

CHILDHOOD & ADOLESCENCE
• Focus: Childhood obesity, teen STI/HIV rates, repeat births to teens
• Strategies:
• BF education, promote BF Hospitals, obesity coalition
4ME Teen Health Project; and NFP/MIECHV
• Progress:
• School districts, hospitals provide worksite BF support
• BF support provided through HS (peer counseling and IBCLC)
• Teen birth rates, repeat teen birth rates trending down
• PREP grant ended
• Nurse-Family Partnership sustained
• Proposed Changes: Continue implementation of BrdsNBz NE Florida text
message warmline and increase awareness of LARCs.
PRECONCEPTION
• Focus: Multivitamin use, smoking cessation, STI/HIV rates, obesity,
interconceptional intervals
• Strategies: Promote vitamin use, HS smoking cessation, Integration of
FP/STI services, Preconception Peer Educators (PPE)
• Progress:
• STI/HIV rates still high
• LARC Pilot
• Funding from state for Magnolia Primary Care
• Preconception clinical toolkit
• Proposed Changes: Implement primary care services at Magnolia and
incorporate yoga, weight loss, and nutrition.
PREGNANCY & CHILDBIRTH
• Focus: Early prenatal care, tobacco use, maternal mortality, single
motherhood, infant mortality
• Strategies: HS smoking cessation SCRIPT, Interconceptional interventions
for high-risk women. Integrate life course approach into programs. Effectively
serve at-risk pregnant women through HS
• Progress:
• Prenatal screening rates are down
• Substance exposed newborns continue to rise
• Proposed Changes: Substance Abuse Task Force
