Canine atopy is a hypersensitivity reaction to inhaled (possibly a historical theory) or cutaneously absorbed environ-mental antigens (allergens) in genetically predisposed individuals. It is common in dogs, with age of onset ranging from 6 months to 6 years. The most common presenting signs are pruritus, erythema and secondary microbial infections. The distribution of the pruritus and the lesions typically involve face, ears, ventral aspects of the abdomen, the perianal areas and the feet. Measurement of total IgE is available for aid of atopic dermatitis before speci�c test.
