Try this at home!
Use toothpicks to balance a one-inch carrot top on a jar. Fill the jar so that water is just touching the bottom of the carrot. Rell the water as needed and watch leaves and owers sprout out the top of the old carrot in just a few days.
Recycle an onion! The white stringy bits that we cut o the end of an onion are actually roots. Instead of tossing out the end of the onion, dry it out for two days then plant it in a small pot. With some sun, water and time it will sprout delicious green onions.
Cut the top o a small pumpkin and add soil and water. Observe with your child how long the seeds take to germinate and sprout. Plant the sprouted pumpkin outside to see the vines, owers and eventual pumpkins that will grow!
