Introduction of AMS Coaching Staff & PRINCIPAL:

Basketball

• Basketball Tryouts are the following week after our last AMS football game.

• We keep three teams (Purple, Gold, White)• No more than 30 athletes total will make up

those three teams• 7th grade will practice in the mornings• 8th grade will practice in the afternoons

Track/Cross Country

• Track will start the week after Basketball is over

• Track workouts are after school for 7th & 8th until 5:00PM

• Cross Country is a fall sport during football• Coach Herbold is in charge of CC• All Non-Football offseason athletes will

participate in cross country

• PARENTS• Athletics builds on individual character• Be supportive!

• Support! No profanity!! Remember we can’t hear you, but your child can pick you out of 100 fans screaming at him!

• Be encouraging! • No matter how the game turns out, 99% of the players will

forget about the game 20 mins after it is over. Don’t keep bringing up their mistakes! Find something positive they did and focus on that.

• Check our AMS Website Frequently.• If you aren’t getting emails from Coach Allen,

• Questions – • after the games and during practice is not the

time to talk about questions or concerns. Please make an appointment with the coach during his conference or with me, Coach Allen, and we will be more than happy to accommodate you.

Expectations

Practice

• 7th Grade – – We are on the field at 6:45 AM. Please have your

child here by 6:20 AM.– A coach will be here at 6:10 AM to open the door.– We will not have AM practice on Wednesdays,

once the season begins. – Non-Football offseason will report to school by

8:20AM for regular school day

PRACTICE• 8th Grade-– The weather has been cooperative for the start of

school– 8th Grade football will practice after school until

5:30PM– We will not practice on Fridays after school due to

all of our staff having Friday night duties

What Players can expect from the Coaches

• To provide the leadership and training necessary to achieve our goals.

• To work you harder than you have ever worked before.

• To treat you as a man and with love and respect.• To help you mature and reach your goals before

and after Acton Middle School.• To make all decisions predicated on what is best

for the team and then you.

SHOWERS

• Students must take a shower before they go to class.

• We wash all athletic clothes here at AMS.• Personal clothes (towels) need to be washed at

home, frequently.• We will open the locker room at 4:00 each day so

that 7th grade can get their stuff out. • GISD Policy states every Friday the custodians will

spray for Staph and MRSA.

Gamedays

• Games start at 5PM and the following games will start approximately 1 hour after.

• We have started the last game closer to 8PM in the past on rare occasions.

• We will not start games before 5, 6 & 7PM• Meals will be provided from Chicken Express or Taco

Casa each week.• Still working on cost for each student.• No outside food will be allowed as we are attempting

to have a unified pregame

Locker Room Etiquette

• Absolutely NO HORSEPLAY!• Keeping up with equipment/lockers

• Your child is responsible for making sure his locker is secure every time he leaves for practice or home. Anything lost or stolen will be his responsibility and payment for items will be paid prior to him being reissued equipment.

Other

• After practices/Games• We please ask that you pick your child up as soon

as the practice/games are over. Out of town games: you are allowed to take your child home and only your child. There is a sign out sheet and we ask that you respectfully sign it so we can ensure that all athletes are accounted for.

• ** It is now district policy that, even with parent personal note or phone call you cannot take another child home. They must ride the bus back to AMS. **

Activity Bus

There is an activity bus that runs from GMS, Monday – Thursday, to GHS then your house starting at 6:15pm. If you are not in the parking lot when the bus is ready to leave, we will have your child board the bus @ 6pm, and you can pick him up at the High School parking lot, or he can ride the bus home. There is not an activity bus that runs after the gamesPlease be respectful of our coaches families and insure your child is picked up on time.

THE LITTLE STUFF

HAIR: We will be compliant with the GISD Athletic hand book

We want our Athletes to represent themselves, their school and their family

• Hair will be cut above the eyebrows, off the ears and collar.
