Honorable chairman, the special guest of honor, alltitlemen and women, honored guests, distinguishedladies and gentlemen. It is fromthe bottom of myheart that I extend my warmest greeting to all of you.We are delighted to have you here toparticipate andshare in this purpose driven event. Our theme forthisconvention is ?Equipment of the Health CareFacility Equals Good Healthcare?.The proceeds oftoday?s event will be used to equip our HealthcareCenter inAmokwe. We urge you to do your part andsupport our noble cause. This is thesecond conventionAmokwe Progressive National Organization (APNO)has conductedin Los Angeles in the past ten years.During the first convention, APNOfriends, especiallythose living in California responded to our call tosupportour humanitarian project. The health carecenter has been completed and theservice in the clinichas begun. As such, APNO attention has shiftedfrombuilding a healthcare center to servicing the

center. Your presence here todayserves as a reminderto us of how much you value our relationship with youandhow you cherish the charity work we do. On behalfof APNO, I welcome you to ourNational Conventionhere in the City of Angels.

Amokwe is a town in Udi Local Government Area ofEnugu State,Nigeria. APNO was formed to uniteAmokwe people living in the United States ofAmerica.The purpose is to maintain close relationship with ourfellow Amokwepeople. Such close relationship allowsus to pledge to be our brothers? keeper.The pledgehas been exemplified in many occasions includingsupporting thefamilies in times of need. We haveconsistently conducted annual medicalmissions to

serve the underprivileged members of ourcommunities. Our missionhave benefited Amokwecommunity and neighboring towns by providinghealthcareto the needy at no cost to them.

It is my pleasure to recognize my predecessors; Dr.LukeAneke, our first president and Chief Obi Ene, oursecond president for the wonderfuljob they did tokeep this organization focused on its purpose drivenventures. Ibecame the president and followed thepath my predecessors laid for theorganization. Wecontinued the work on the clinic. It was not an easytaskbecause funds for the clinic have almost beenexhausted. New funds were notcoming in; memberswere tired of frequent demand for support for thehealthcenter. I told the members of the executivecommittee that the challenge aheadof us was huge.We were left to find ways to raise enough funds tocomplete theclinic. I am glad that members of theexecutive that I worked with took thechallengepersonally and determined to do everythingnecessary to see that thelight handed over to us didnot die in our hands. We went to work; we beganmakingcalls to friends, negotiating with the contractorand finally the clinic was completed,and opened witha heartwarming ceremony.

Thousands of Amokwe people and others fromthesurrounding towns can now get treatment at theclinic. For this reason, pleasejoin me to thank themembers of APNO, especially member of theexecutive, ChiefDr. Ejike Ene, the secretary, ChiefLawrence Agu, the Treasurer, Chief/BarristerFrank Ude,the publicity secretary, Hon. Chudi Ene, Hon FreddieAgu, and HonEmeka Ude. These men made my workeasier because they answered every call Imade tothem, they tackled every challenge and task posed onus, and throughtheir efforts, and those of all themembers of APNO, Amokwe men and womenarestronger, healthier, and proud of APNO support inAmokwe.

In addition to the hard work of APNO members, therearethe sons of Amokwe, whose contributions to APNOproject made it possible tocomplete the clinic sooner.On behalf of APNO, it is my pleasure to give anAPNOOUTSTANDING AWARD to the following Amokwe sonswhose contributions andsupport facilitated thecompletion of Amokwe healthcare center: Chief TonyEze,Professor John Kester, Chief Obi Ene, Honorable

Don Eze, Honorable Chudi Ene,and Onowu DrMaxwell Ude.

APNO continues tothrive because of the unrelentingefforts of its chapter organizations. Themembers ofthe chapter responded to every challenge APNO hasfaced. For thatreason, it is my pleasure to give APNODEDICATION AWARD to the followingchapters; APOCalifornia, APNO Dallas, APNO Houston, and APNONew York.

APNO will forever be grateful to Igwe Justice P.C.Onyia, Ezeokwedike of Etiti Amokwe for hisunrelenting support and dedicationtowards thebuilding f the health center and bringing ingovernment attention.Igwe, Amokwe USA, salute you.

My fellow APNO members, our task is not yet finished.We organizemedical mission at the clinic everyDecember, 27th. I urge you tokeep that programgoing. The torch is now passed on to the newexecutives, itis my hope that APNO members willcontinue to support them in keeping thetorchilluminating our way, guide the organizationtowards our common goal, and inthe end, pass on thetorch to the new generation of Amokwe men andwomen.

I would love to use this opportunity to give aspecialthanks to my lovely wife Lolo Ethel IfeomaAneke for her unconditional support,the ChapterPresident, the Chairman Convention PlanningCommittee, all themembers of the planningcommittee, and the California Chapter for agreeingtohost this special convention. With all of us gatheredhere today, we pray toGod to grant us our request,which is to raise money to equip the Health Centerandto grant us safe journey home as we leave to ourvarious destinations.

Honorable chairman, distinguished ladies andgentlemen, I am privileged to welcome you all onbehalf of Amokwe progressive organization to our 4thnational convention. This fundraising event is tosupport our medical mission back home. Whichentailsequipping our healthcare clinic with thenecessary medical tools, medication and personnel.Thank you very much for honoring our invitation.

In the 2007 convention fundraising event, weembarked on a project of building a healthcare centerin Amokwe town in Udi Local Government Area ofEnugu State in Nigeria. We called and you allresponded and donated generously, making itpossible for our goal at that time to be completed. OnDecember 26th, 2011 the healthcare center wascommissioned by his Excellency Barrister Sullivan I,Chimethe Governor. Of Enugu State. Since then thehealthcare center has been providing services topeople far and beyond Amokwe; people from Oji river,

Umabi, Umuaga, Obioma, and Nsude, to list but a few.This health care center provides services like freehealth education, free screening services on bloodpressure, diabetes, cholesterol, child care, and woundcare. This therefore reduces a lot of untimely deaththat befalls our communities at home.

Today, July 12th, 2014, we have gathered againfor continuity on the same project, and we arecounting on your support and generosity to help usequip this health center in order to continue savinglives. Because a healthy and a well-equipped hospitalequals to a healthy people and society. This hospitallacks equipment’s in laboratories, labor and delivery,wound care areas, even blood pressure machines,blood sugar machines, wheelchair, wound careequipment, lifesaving equipment and so many otherthings.

Today we call on you for your support, becausean Igbo adage says that when a man’s back itches hewill go to somebody to scratch his back for him, unlikethe animals that will go to a tree. We call on youbecause we need your support to purchase theseequipment. We have doctors, nurses, security peopleand volunteers, but we do not have the equipment to
