Vacuum circuit-breakers are used forswitching: rated short-circuit breaking

currents partial load currents unbalanced breaking currents capacitor banks unloaded cables and overhead

cables unloaded transformers.

Vaccum circuit-breakers types VAand VAA are front-mounted switches

for installation in medium-voltageindoor switchgear. They may befixed mounted in switchgear or ona switchgear truck. In railway ope-ration single-pole or two-pole vacu-um circuit-breakers type VXA, VXBare employed. The vacuum circuit-breakers type VXC, which are de-signed for especially high mechani-cal and electrical switching cycles,are highly suitable for switchingelectrical smelting furnaces. Vacuumcircuit-breakers are suitable for swit-ching in all cases of need in indu-stral plants, distribution networks aswell as in railway operation.

The vacuum circuit-breakers are fit-ted with an energy-storing drive for

manual or electrical tensioning andoptionally for fast auto-reclosure.

Depending on requirements, thevacuum circuit-breakers may be pro-vided with auxiliary switches, auxili-

ary current releases and under-volta-ge releases.

Solid pole supports mean that hevacuum chambers are not exposedto external forces. This stacionallyclosed arrier system means that theaxial forces which occur duringmaking and breaking proceduresonly act on the contact system, lea-

ving the switching chamber housingunaffected.

The vacuum circuit-breakers con-

tained in this list comply with thespecifications for AC switching de-vices for voltages above 1 kV incompliance with VDE 0670, parts101-108, IEC Publication 60056,BS 5311 and NF-C 64, CSA andVE. The vacuum circuit-breakerscomply to a great extent with theUS standards ANSI C 37.06 aswell as NEMA Standards Publica-tion No. SG4 and are suitable for

normal service conditions in accor-dance with VDE 0670, part 1000and IEC Publication 60694.

Tests

Vacuum circuit-breakers have pro-

ved their suitability in the type testand in numerous series of testsduring development. The tests wereperformed in our own test shopsand by impartial institutes like FGHand KEMA. The tests covered notonly conformity with the type tests inaccordance with specifications butalso numerous special requirementsas well as determining the life cha-racteristics of the switching cham-

bers and their suitability for type-tested switchgear and controlgear;in addition they were subjected tonumerous network tests. The reliabi-lity, safety and mechanical functionsof the switching devices were testedin duration tests.
